11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / finding Ostrich feathers? on: February 12, 2008 04:34:59 AM
So I'm in the market for some ostrich plumes for a fascinator, and all i seem to have in my stash are goose and peacock. Michaels predictably has nothing, and I'd rather not order off line.
Any suggestions as to where i could find ostrich feathers? do they count as notions, or would a different kind of store have them?
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / dying a beaded dress?? on: February 07, 2008 01:58:22 PM
So i found the most amazing dress for prom and only want to make a couple alterations for it. The beading pattern is incredible and everything, and I want to keep it, the only thing i don't like about the dress is the color.
It's a lime-green dress with sheer black chiffon over it, so it reads forest green, but the chiffon fades out and there's this random foot-high bright green rim around the bottom. It looks like I put on my gorgeous cabaret-trapeze-girl dress and hopped in some toxic sludge.
So what I'm wondering is is there any way I could dip-dye it so the green part would be dyed a darker green?
Would it work if i used only one pack of black rit so it dyed transparent?
Would all the beads fall off?
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Boring pattern I happen to love, Suggestions please? on: January 29, 2008 02:37:05 PM
So for Prom I've (thanks to Kaitlinigain) almost decided on this gorgeous dress, <img/src="http://img.sewingtoday.com/cat/20000/itm_img/V7365.jpg">
Probably in a grey satin. I am absolutely in love with the first back (or lack thereof) on there, with the crazy pleat-bow-ruching butt thing.
The one thing is, I think the front is deathly boring and looks like a slip. It needs...I dont know. Ruffles? Sequens? Feather Boas?
How should I spice things up so it looks all neat and fancy up there and keeps with the rest of the dress? P.S here's the link. http://www.voguepatterns.com/item/V7365.htm?tab=evening_bridal_includes_designer&page=7
14  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Prom dress options for rail thin DIY child? on: January 16, 2008 03:04:41 PM
Oh my god, guys, thanks. I'm thinking either something backless or a sweetheart neckline, or a corset... i'm getting really carried away. I'll be sure to post pictures with the end result!

I'm going to my senior prom in a few months. I'm 5'7 and 100 lbs, and have an impossible time getting clothes to fit me, because I have really long legs and no upper body.
I've heard so much about what's flattering for "curvacious craftsters" and curvier girls, but what about those of us who have no boobs or butt?
What can I do for Prom that isn't your typical strapless beaded shiny thing, that'll I'll be able to look dashing and dance the night away in?

Oh wow. Where do you go for your watch parts? All the watches I've taken apart lately have had little bits of computer chip in them.
17  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Re: It's PINK...Can I give it to a baby BOY? on: November 28, 2007 04:24:15 AM
This thing is adorable. You should send it to me instead.
Seriously, though, if you want to give it to them, go ahead. They'll be greatful for any fabulous handmade gift you give them, and if it bothers them that much, they just won't use it.

the scarf curse is the superstition that if you knit your boyfriend a scarf, they will break up with you. Wikipedia has a very intiresting article on it.

I was totally going to say that. do it with polymer, and make them so you can split them apart.
