1  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / A BU knitting/crafty group on: February 01, 2006 11:58:27 AM
A few of us on the Boston SnB group are trying to start up a Boston University knitting (and possibly other crafts) group.
It'd be nice to meet other crafty types around campus (we have Grad students and undergrads intersted)

We're leaning towards either Mon or Wed evening, 6-8ish- most likely at the GSU but possibly somewhere else.
If anyone is interested, send me a pm for more info- or to get updates!
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Happy Winter Cards on: January 26, 2006 05:35:05 PM
I wanted to show off my new Happy Winter cards I made this week...  I did a lousy job getting out Xmas/Hanukkah cards this year- so I thought I'd send out JAnuary/Winter/Snowy day cards.
I got inspired at Paper Source last weekend, and got these cute little mitten shaped cards- which I decorated and then stuck onto chocolate brown cards... too cute!

3  UNITED STATES / Maryland / SnB in Bethesda? on: May 20, 2005 03:46:54 PM
Anyone know of a stitch and bitch type group around Bethesda?
I know there are some in DC and a couple in NoVA, but they're pretty hard for me to get to.
If there aren't any already going, any interest in starting a new group?
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / sweatshirt fabric on: March 12, 2005 11:22:32 AM
I want to make some simple casual skirts out of this sweatshirt fabric I got at Joanns...  Not short- but falling below the knee
I have 2 yards of red and 2 of pink
I was thinking just a simple a-line with a drawstring waist for one... but I'm not feeling terribly creative about what to do with them!
Any suggestions?  I hate hate hate zippers- so drawstring or elastic waists.... but other than that I'm open for ideas
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / pony pearls on: March 10, 2005 04:59:20 PM
Anyone use these?
I'm very attracted to the Pony Pearls- they come in such pretty colors and all... and I love pretty colors!  (which is why I have all those cute Crystalite needles)
But I here the smaller ones have the re-inforcement thing inside which makes them rattle (is it annoying?)

Also- where have y'all been able to find them (online)?  They seem to only come in the longer lengths (14in instead of 9, which i prefer for straight needles), which I'm not so sure about...

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / help me make this smaller, please on: February 05, 2005 03:03:31 PM
so I really want to make this pattern for Valentines Day (well, hopefully it'll be done!)
but I only have 2 balls of Fun Fur in the right color (purple) and I dont think I'll be able to get more in time
The pattern uses 3 balls though.  http://frugalknit12330.goeserv.com/homepage/pillow.htm
I've made patterns bigger before, but smaller is confusing me!
I think I should still cast on 3 stitches, but just not do as many increases?  or just not as many rows of increases before I start the two heart-humps (their word, not mine)?

Any tips?
Thanks!
7  UNITED STATES / Massachusetts / thrift store hunt on: January 19, 2005 05:01:39 PM
hey Bostonians-
I've been to several thrift stores in the area, and found cool stuff, but never what I really want to find: knitting stuff!

so my question: anyone know of a thrift store that seems to have yarn or knitting needles, etc on a regular basis (b/c who knows when I'll get there) I'd love to find some cheap yarn and always need more needles!

Thanks!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / the dog ate my needle! on: January 05, 2005 09:35:20 PM
Just got back from a lovely (ie miserable) trip to FL to visit the grandparents, who have 2 papillons (little dogs)
And though I learned ealy on to keep my knitting away from the little mutts.. er- dogs... my mother was a bit slower than I, and the second to last night we were there left her beautiful scarf she was knitting (expensive hand-dyed yarn, etc) out on a coffee table.  Well thank goodness the puppy didn't even boither touching the yarn (although he went through a couple yards of mine earlier in the week) but he did go after the big beautiful purple size 17 plastic knitting needle!  And for a 6 lb dog he did a lot of damage to the point.

so my question is- can I fix it?  I figured I'd try sand paper and if it didn't go well I'd guilt grandma into buying me a new pair of needles...

anyways- I'm not a fan of the little monster dog (who I'm also allergic too, but grandma likes him better than me I think!)
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / cute candy ideas on: December 01, 2004 07:21:58 PM
I love these little packets of candies from the Celebration Fantastic catalog- but they are stupidly expensive, so I'm gonna make my own as little stocking stuffers for all the kids in my family.
here's the link to their website:
www.celebrationfant astic.com/catalog.cfm?pgp=HP0431B

I'm definitely going to do coal!  Probably the "Elf Pillows" (pillow mints) "Mistle Toes" (looks like those raspberry shaped candies) the "we fish you a merry xmas" (sweedish fish) "reindeer food" (red and green jelly beans) and "Reindeer Noses" (little red ball shaped candies) too...

Anyone got any other clever ideas?  I'm going to hit a candy store tomorrow to get supplies!
10  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / shot glasses? on: November 12, 2004 10:21:51 PM
So I'm into Xmas/Hanukkah gift making... My brother collects shot glasses- mostly fomr different places he visits...
But after seeing Tic-Tac-Toe shotglasses in Urban Outfitters, I'm feeling a need to make this game for him! (I also love the candy cane shotglasses they sell- too fun!)
Anyone have a good source for 10 blank, clear glass shotglasses, cheap?  Because the prices I've found so far for the individual glasses make it seem cheaper just to buy from Urbn...
Thanks guys!
