1  Re: Promalong - Making your own Prom dress? Join the club! in Clothing Sewalongs by KatFink on: April 06, 2007 08:31:49 PM
My prom is on Saturday, May 12th, 2007.  I just started the muslin of my prom dress today.  I am doing Vogue 2903.  (With short sleeves.)

I am doing it in a peacock blue similar to the color of this hat.

I bought this hat at a vintage flea market several months ago and I decided that I'd make my prom dress to match it.  I am going out to buy the fabric for it tomorrow.  I am so excited!  Cheesy  So far, the pattern has been easier than I thought.  ( :knocks on wood: )  The hard part of this is going to be finding a date!  Hahahaha.

2  My first dress from scratch! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by KatFink on: June 15, 2006 02:12:21 PM
I had this old nightdress that I absolutely loved the fit of and how it was shaped and such.  It was the UGLIEST fabric every.  Multiclored floweres all over the place.  It was so loud and ugly.  It also had these little leaf shaped things on the chest part.  Uggh.  Made my boobs look like a manic tree.

So, I did what any sane person would do.  I cut it up and made a pattern out of it.

I got this fabric at a garage sale with a bunch of other fabric for 3 bucks.  I got a good 10-12 yards of different cottons.  This dress probably took 2 1/2 yards of fabric.  I would have rather had three though.  I really had to skimp on the straps.

Ooohhh aahhhh.  (You can see the un-hemmed-ness of it)

WHEE!.

I need to get a picture without the cardigan.  I wore it today because the top is a little puckery on the sides.

Also, invisible zippers are a bitch to put in.  D:
