11  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / fuzzy awesomeness! (i.e. legwarmers) on: August 13, 2006 08:28:21 PM
yes, that's right, i said legwarmers...my boyfriend has been begging me to get some (i have no idea where he's getting it, i just figure it's best not to ask) and so instead of buying some, i made some! i wouldn't know where to buy legwarmers, anyway, this not being the 80s and all.

so, while viewing this you have to keep in mind that i'm a beader at heart, who is trying with all her might to master knitting. it has not happened yet, but it might someday. i made these using the smallest knifty knitter loom.

(please excuse the little pieces of paper on the floor. my kitten decided that the toilet paper was threatening her today.)

i have to admit that i scoffed at the idea of legwarmers for a long time ("hello! this is not the 80s!"), but these are surprisingly comfortable and warm! i recommend them to anyone who likes to hang out in shorts but gets slightly chilly.

15  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Easy stuff to learn? on: August 10, 2006 08:48:51 AM
baked macaroni and cheese! really easy and yummy- i think of it as super comfort food, since my mom always made it for us when i was a kid. in fact, when i got my first apartment, she gave me a little book she made with all the recipes she used to make! here's the one i'm talking about:

Macaroni and cheese, baked
Boil 2 c elbow noodles
Oven to 350
In square baking dish, layer noodles, cheese, noodles, cheese.
Bake until melts and browns a tad at edges.

the amount of cheese you use can vary, depending on how much you like cheese- i always end up using a ton. you can also add cooked chicken to it. it's important to let the mac and cheese cool after taking it out of the oven, so it retains some structure when you put it on a dish!
enjoy!

18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / crystals and wires and chains...oh my! on: August 04, 2006 11:58:42 AM
so, this is the first piece i've done that has incorporated chain and heavy gauge wire, not to mention action swarovksi crystals. i made if for my fiancee's mom, who was over and seriously hinting that she wanted me to make her something ("i realllly want a necklace with red beads, but i just can't find one that i like..." or "wow, your crafts would make really good christmas presents..."), and i really like it, so i'm thinking of making myself one in blue. it is based on a pattern from creative wire and beaded jewelry by linda jones, which i just picked up last weekend. hm. the pics are sorta blurry...oh well.

tell me what you think!
