1  Flowers Necklace in Beads: Completed Projects by lightupmyroom on: May 01, 2007 02:05:30 AM
I got these flower beads recently, because they reminded me of a bracelet my grandmother gave me when I was tiny.
this is what I made with most of them, I still have some:

3  Record Journal My Little Brother Made Me in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by lightupmyroom on: May 01, 2007 01:56:47 AM
This is one of my favorite things ever, the record journal my brother gave me when I graduated HS in 2004.  he made it himself that afternoon.
for various reasons, it makes me really sad every time I see it, but it's still one of those things I'd definately take with me if I were moving/the apartment was burning.  hopefully someday it will make me happy, and I will be able to write in it.
I do think there are clips of a manga in there, but I don't know which one.
I know how to make record journals, too (:
he taught me.  and I've figured out my own little tricks for them, since.

4  Pillows I made in middle school- Trapunto, log cabin-ish, butterfly piecework. in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by lightupmyroom on: April 29, 2007 05:05:49 AM
I'm going through some old photos tonight.  These were pillows I made in middle school, maybe early high school, and the pictures are from my senior year (2004).

It's kind of hard to tell, but the cat on the cat pillow stands out through trapunto (it has fiberfill on top ofthe pillow, bound by sewing a scrap fabric on the back on the outline of the cat).  I had a good sewing teacher (:
who also helped me piece together a butterfly:

and this is a better picture of the tare panda pillow.  I gotthe fabric off Ebay, before Sanrio had authorized their fabrics for sale in the US (I believe).  it was a thin cotton.  The lines aren't straight, but that wasn't really what I was going for.

and one more:

thanks for looking!

5  Glycerine Soaps in Basket in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by lightupmyroom on: April 29, 2007 04:57:36 AM

These are glycerine soaps I made, actually a few years ago.  I'm going through pictures right now  Cheesy
I like the green one with the purple bits in it, and the pink has bits of roses.
I'm going to start making more soap again, it's something I kind of do in phases, and now I have some more developed inspirations.
I alsomade the basket that they are in.  That was my second basket, pictures of the first are on the housewares board.
they soaps are wrapped in saran wrap, although I don't really like that.  it was the quickest thing I could come up with at the time to keep them from going sticky  Angry

6  baskets! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by lightupmyroom on: April 29, 2007 04:50:35 AM
A woman from my hometown had a basketmaking studio.
she taught me to make baskets for free(:

this was my first one.
she also told me that basketmaking is one of the few (if not only) crafts left that must be done entirely by hand- every one you see.  that really surprised me, and made me think about how people all over the world work with their hands doing this.  I hope they are happy (:
I've made a few since then, and I'm decorating them/working with them, in hopes of coming up wih a sort of "altered basket".

This is a skein of Gems Topaz yarn (really soft, worsted weight) that I handpainted using jacquard acid dyes.
The colors are a little bit deeper than the picture shows.
