My wheel has been "creaking" for the past couple of weeks. I've only spun on it twice since it began to make this noise, but it doesn't seem to get any better. I have an Ashford Traveller, double drive, double treadle wheel. I can feel the creak coming from underneath my right foot, but I've oiled, and tightened, and even found one blogger who said her peg was loose, so I shoved some card-stock into the peg hole to tighten that up. It's just... not fixing it. I feel like I'm doing something wrong here... it was working fine for the past 3 years, and now... I just don't know!
Anyone have any insight on this? I called Paradise Fibers a few weeks ago and they had no idea what was wrong... I'm planning to ask some vendors this week at MDSW but - I worry if they can't hear it, they won't know how to fix it! I'm getting really fed up.
I am running/ran the Jar of Hearts swap. I'm not gonna say it was an easy swap to organize, but we had a LOT of participants, LOTS of hearts running around and only 2 packages went missing. So after speaking to the receiver and her senders we decided to get angels. I found two members willing to angel, sent them the info and 4 days later the parcels (both) showed up. One angel had not yet sent, so she's ok, but the other one did. And I know she put a lot of effort and thought into the angel package. What should I do?
In a perfect world I would like to still give her ANGEL feedback and FOC status, because she fulfilled her duties as an angel when we needed one, but the member who received her hearts now has extra. I mean is this ok?

Details of swap: There's this great song called Jar Of Hearts. We are creating a swap from the concept of that song. Participants will be given between 2-5 partners and required to make between 2-5 hearts per partner. Your heart must NOT exceed 4x4x4 inches. No folding of hearts allowed to fit in this cube. The hearts you make are completely up to you unless you and your partner discuss otherwise. There is room for you to list what you like/dislike but except for something you expressly forbid what you receive is up to your partner. This way everyone will have a lovely little eclectic jar of hearts. =)
Quick Facts: 2-5 partners 2-5 hearts no extras unless otherwise discussed 4x4x4 - NO bigger HEARTS only - NO jars
You MUST PM both Cabaute and honeyd as well as your partner when sending. Let's try and keep this a flake free swap!
If you want to participate, information to send to organizer (honeyd) and co-organizer (Cabaute):
QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER: Jar of Hearts Craftster username: Email address: Your real name: Mailing address including the country (as it would appear on the envelope):
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? Confirm that are at least 16 years old or, if not, that you have moderator approval(YES/NO)
HEARTS: How many partners would you like to have? How many hearts would you be willing to send per partner? What themes, colors and materials do you like? What would you NOT like to receive? What size hearts would you like to receive?
SKILLS: How would you like to create your hearts? What colors do you want to make? What materials will you use? Would you like to swap any heart related extras? If so what were you thinking? And what do you want in return?
EXTRA: Do you have any allergies? Do you have any allergens in your home? Any material aversions? Anything else you would like your partner to know?
IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER (honeyd and Cabaute) VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.
Also, remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find other rules about participating in a swap.
PLEASE REMEMBER: We are only sending hearts. No jars, please. Also - what you receive is up to your partner to choose. We will try to match you up, but the idea is a mixed jar of hearts based on what your partner made for you.
We must have a DC for all parcels in this swap. Sorry for the confusion.
The moment I heard the song "Jar of Hearts" by Christina Perri I started thinking of having my own little crafty jar of hearts. So I put this idea out there for you lovely swappers, what if we swap hearts to build a jar of hearts for everyone? This swap would be completely unrelated to the song, just stealing the idea of a jar filled with hearts.
The hearts could be made from anything as long as they are under 3 x 3 inches to fit comfortably inside a medium Ball jar. What do you guys think? Is it lame?
So I'm usually a lurker and I'm trying really hard to change that. I really love swapping and have noticed that maybe if I were more active on OTHER areas of the board I would enjoy the rest of Craftster more... I mean, uh-duh, that's why I'm here!!
Anyway -- I made this for the lovely AlmostDawn in round 4 of the hoopla swap where the theme was diptych hoops. I decided to go with this idea of a tall ship (an evil pirate ship, so it's really ok!) being dragged down by a giant octopus.
As this idea was festering I stumbled across a few... difficulties... 1) I'd never done a hoop that would stay in the hoop. How would I do the back so that I could have the two hoops stay attached?? 2) How can I get the tentacles to "stand" up? 1) I used the wonderful tutorial by onegroovyday for the backs doing the octopus head first and half of the ship then stitching the tentacles on and finishing the ship's background. There was a lot of flailing around... and many many pin pricks. But I'm clumsy like that. 2) I wove some wire into the tentacles to keep them up. It works pretty good when they are against a wall... hopefully it will work for AlmostDawn!
SO without further ado! My pictures!
details of the ship (even my dad said: "wow. you did this by hand?" for my third embroidery I think it looks pretty good.)
the octopus hoop
the bottom details
both of them together
more ship details and the tentacles dragging it down.
I also figured I'd so you my prototype... I always wanted to do the octopus out of felt, but when I mentioned that to my mom she said it would look better in fabric and why don't I do it that way... well... this is why...
I'm calling him Zombopus. Or Octobi depending on my mood.
He's creepy... and I left out a leg... oops... I swear I CAN sew.
It's been a while since I stopped in at this end of the boards. I haven't been spinning in at least a year, but I'm in a swap where I wanted to spin some yarn and dragged out my lovely Ashford Traveller (set as a double drive) and am having serious issues.
At first I wasn't able to spin at all (wow out of practice). It was adding twist and not winding onto the bobbin. Then I got my tension right and was able to spin 1/3 of the bobbin on perfectly. I switched fibers (mid yarn, think scrap yarn I guess) from merino to wool/mohair/alpaca blend and all of a sudden my lovely spinning was gone. I can't get this new fiber to wind on at all. I try to adjust the tension and my bobbin break snapped out of the holder. I though ok, maybe I'll do it without the brake and set it up for the drive band on the bobbin and the flyer, and still nothing. Then I tried to adjust the MOA and that didn't work. HELP!?!
What do I need to keep trying to change? Is it normal to have to keep adjusting the tension as I spin?
I'm organizing my first swap and getting close to the 25 participant mark. I'm going back and forth between recruiting a co-organizer and not. I'm going to Japan right in the middle of the swap and think a co would be a great idea, but I'm also a little selfish and have my own way of keeping things neat for myself (I've never been the best with working in groups when someone else is keeping the notes! :/ )
So here's my question. Swallow my OCD pride and keep sign ups open for all who want, while getting a co to help (which would totally be helpful while I'm away) OR close sign ups early and throw it all to the wind?
