11  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Tiny Ceramic Kitcheny Stuff! on: May 21, 2008 06:17:15 PM
Not quite sure where ceramic items fit in, but I figured housewares would be the best place.

Finally got the hang of wheel throwing this semester, and wanted to share a few creations Smiley Everything shown is about 4 inches tall.

Thanks for looking! Wink
12  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Wool Lapghan on: May 21, 2008 06:09:04 PM
It's finally finished!

When my mom came back from Ireland, she brought me some beautiful 100% wool yarn that was hand spun and hand dyed. I coupled it with my Scottish wool yarn I had been hoarding for a few years and wove a lapghan:

13  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Hard Water & Horrible Hair on: March 02, 2008 06:52:10 PM
Does anyone know of a solution to horrible hair due to hard water? I've got gross mineral build-up in my hair and it makes my otherwise okay hair frizzy, flat, tangly and the hair color even goes very dull after only a couple weeks since coloring.

Would rinsing with vinegar help? Is there any other way to get my hair really, really clean? I miss the shininess I have when I wash my hair in other towns!

Thank you for reading!
14  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / What do YOU want for Valentine's Day? on: February 08, 2008 08:04:01 AM
Since often the idea of what we would like to receive from our significant others is quite different from what they would like to receive from us, we spend a lot of time trying to figure out the difference. I thought it would be helpful for any future guys who may be strapped for Valentine's Day ideas to compile a list of what we thought would be good gifts for us.

So, for their sake, what are you secretly hoping to get for Valentine's Day?
15  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Just showing off my gift baskets :) on: December 19, 2007 03:39:31 PM
Past years have been successful in creating gift baskets for those I'm stumped on what to give for Christmas. Other years I've done one basket. This year FIVE. All contain various handmades like soap, scarves, baked stuff etc!

The most fun part though, had to be the shrink wrap  Cheesy

Thanks for looking!! Happy Holidays everyone!!!!!!
16  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Akron You Mittens on: November 22, 2007 10:30:15 PM
My best friend goes to the University of Akron and is really really into the football and soccer games. But being so very far north in Ohio and experiencing such joys as lake effect cold fronts, her poor little hands get so cold!

I finished these for her today to wear to the games, with a matching scarf. They're just made with Red Heart (the only brand that had the right colors!) but they've been washed with fabric softener so they're actually very soft to touch. The inside is lined with fleece and feel soooo nice. Smiley
As an extra precaution, I put elastic in the wrist to seal out the cold.

Let me know what you think!

And the fleece:

18  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Sympathy Care Package for My Dad on: February 14, 2007 07:31:32 AM
I wanted to put together something special for my Dad, who just lost his wife (my step-mom). A bunch of flowers just doesn't seem personal or practical.

I was thinking a care package of foods and other things that would help him take care of himself while he's grieving. I looked online to order this type of thing, and they all seem to be fancy baskets with tons of coffee and chocolates... not really what I'm looking for.

So far I think I want to include some prepared foods from the grocery store that he could just heat up, some home baked goods, maybe some slippers and a blanket. Can anyone think of anything else I could include? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Would You Say You're a 2D or 3D Artist? on: February 08, 2007 09:27:03 AM
We came upon an interesting discussion today in my Art Education class, and was wondering what you guys thought about it.

Apparently there is a large number of scholars who believe that when it comes to creative endeavors, people's brains are wired strictly for either the 2 dimensional (drawing, painting, graphic design, photography, etc.) or for the 3 dimensional (ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, fashion, interior design, etc.), and trying to master a trade that is not in your "dimension" will be next to impossible.

I noticed a lot of crafts tend to take from both, so I was wondering what the Craftster's thoughts on this would be. Do you think you're strictly a 2D or 3D person? Do you think it's possible to excel at both?

Details of swap:
Hello to craftster's little Marthas-in-training! This swap is for any fans of Martha and her Good Things.
In the Swap Questionnaire below, everyone will make a wishlist of at least five Good Things (the more, the better!) that they would like to receive from their partner. After paired with a partner, each participant with craft four items: three from their partner's wishlist, and one suprise. The surprise item does not have to be a Good Thing, it can be any craft of Martha Stewart's.

Tips: When putting together your Good Things wishlist, be sure to include a number of different crafts from a variety of skill areas so your partner will have plenty of choices that they will be comfortable with. Also, listing more Good Things will give your partner a better idea of your tastes, so you will be more likely to receive something you like!

Positive feedback will be given once both you and your partner have received. Sending late/poor communication will be noted in the comments section. Poor communication is not letting me and your partner know when you have sent or received your package, so remember to PM me AND your partner!! Also, I will periodically be checking in on you to see how you are doing with your crafting. Each of you should keep regular contact with your partners as well as post every once in a while in this thread! Hopefully we will make it through the swap without any flakers, but the sooner we can catch any, the better!
Make sure to post something in this thread so I can be sure you are up to date with this swap!
