1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Odessa (Grumperina for MagKnits) KAL on: October 21, 2006 03:38:39 PM
I cave! I just cast on my first Odessa (sans beads)  I'll post photos as she goes ...

Yeah. I totally love the look and feel of the designer yarns, but my budget says that $5 a skein is already pushing my luck, what with the baby on the way.  I splurged and bought some cashmerino and made a second hat for the fianc for his birthday (forgot to snap a photo).   I'm now 6 rows after the ribbing into a lovely Simply Soft Odessa Smiley I'll let you  know how that worked out Smiley
3  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Giftalong (not a gift exchange) on: October 14, 2006 11:32:52 AM
Didn't know if it was too late to join / chime in, but I needed some motivation, so I thought I'd post  Cheesy

  • Fianc: Jayne Hat
  • Mom: Blue Odessa
  • Best friend: Kittyville hat (or something similar)
  • SIL: baby booties or a blanket... haven't decided.  (we're due within 3-4 weeks of each other so ...)
  • MIL: Huh? Eeks!
  • Sister: Elena pom-pom hat (75% done!)
  • Step Dad: Cashmere ribbed hat
  • DIL: Cashmere ribbed hat

Wow. and Yikes!  I'd better get crackin'!  I'm off the the LYS for supplies tomorrow - this is gonna put the hurt on my wallet!

Believe it or not, that's Patons Shetland Chunky Tweeds.  No cashmere for me ... I'm expecting, so my cash is getting saved for cribs and car seats.  (Yarn is 72 % acrylic, 25% wool, 3% viscose, recommended US 10s, but I used 8s because the patterns called for 8s, but I knit really tight, this the upping of the gauge.)

Thanks so much - I'm on round two of this pattern, and just cast on Kittyville from SNB :-)

I used Fig and Plum's Cashmere ribbed hat pattern at  http://www.figandplum.com/archives/000021.html.

Is it sad that I'm all proud of me?
8  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Re: Jayne Hat iPod Cozy on: October 04, 2006 04:48:55 PM
OMG!  That may be the cutest thing ever!   I still have beaucoup de yarn left after my ill-fated / never finished crocheted Jayne hat... May have to try and knit one instead Smiley  But, til then... I may have to try this out as an idea!
9  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Re: Crafting for Menstrual Activism on: October 04, 2006 04:14:09 PM
Sadly, I'm mid-crafting for a few oodles of non-menstruating folk (i.e. all my preggo buds  Wink )  But, as inspiration for you or other folk,   I thought I might mention that nitty had a pretty nifty pattern for aknitted womb Smiley [http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/PATTwomb.html]

Best of luck!
