I love this hat.  Anyone know where I could find a pattern for something like it?

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Boogie Vest and MNSSCardi finished on: May 29, 2006 03:25:18 PM
A couple of FYOs.  I love how they've both turned out!   Grin

Just thought I'd share.

Boogie vest from Knitty...

Marylin's Not So Shrunken Cardi...

and a close up of the buttons.  I really like them, even though you don't see them much.

Thanks for looking.
3  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / NEW ZEALAND / sewing machine advice on: March 20, 2006 12:47:24 PM
I just blew up my ancient sewing machine yesterday.  Fortunately, it happened just after I finished making a purse.  There was this incredibly loud POP and then lots of stinky smoke.  Scared the crap out of me!  Shocked

Anyway, can anyone offer advice as to what brand I should consider replacing it with?  I'm hoping to get something used off of TradeMe.

Thanks for your help!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / DNA cable sweater on: March 07, 2006 01:45:24 PM
Has anyone knit up a sweater or vest using the DNA cable?  I've gotten a request from my husband.

I know that it should be easy enough to substitute the DNA cable in a pre-existing cable pattern.  I'm just not sure how it would look.   Roll Eyes

Any ideas or suggestions?  I would love to see images of something one of you have done.

Cheers.
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / wrap cardi - makes you look fat? on: January 06, 2006 01:00:12 PM
I'm probably 80% finished on a wrap cardi along the lines of knitty's arisaig.  (It looks just like that sweater, but I haven't followed a pattern.  I wanted to knit it top down.)  Anyway, I tried on the work in progress last night and have the sneaking suspicion that it makes me look rather....wide.   Undecided

Has anyone else had this experience with a wrap cardi that they have made?

The sweater is turning out beautifully, but I won't wear it much if it makes me feel fat.

Just looking for some feedback.
Cheers.
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / all-boys birthday party on: November 17, 2005 07:23:30 PM
My little guy is turning 6 soon and he wants an all boys birthday party.  I'm a bit stuck for ideas.  We live in New Zealand, so it's late spring/early summer here.  My plan so far is just to keep everyone outside.

Some ideas I came up with are:
a treasure hunt
having a tug-o-war over the water sprinkler (losers get pulled into the water)
maybe a quick soccer game...
...but then I come up with nothing.  I'm just not sure if that is going to be enough.

Can anyone offer any other ideas?

Cheers!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / shawls...useful? on: September 29, 2005 02:24:22 PM
I've been compelled to knit up knitty's Ella shawl lately (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall05/PATTella.html).  It's just so beautiful...like stained glass.  I just wonder how much use I would get out of it.

Those of you who have knitted up some beautiful shawls, how much do you actually use them?  I hate to put hours of work into something that ends up just draped over a chair.

Cheers.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / sock guidance on: September 16, 2005 02:37:03 PM
I would really like to try knitting socks.  I'm looking for a short-term, low-commitment project for satisfaction in between knitting sweaters.

So...can anyone suggest a good "starter" pattern?  Are there any tips I should know?

I'm hoping for a comfy sock that I can knit using circular needles.   Roll Eyes   Mmmmmm!  Warm, cozy socks!

Thanks!
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / yarn swifts and winders on: August 29, 2005 02:45:32 PM
I know there are a couple of home-made winders and yarn swifts that are being featured right now.  I was wondering, though...has anyone else come up with other ideas for rigging together a yarn swift and/or winder?

Everyone on this forum is so incredibly creative!  It's amazing the ideas that are put forward.
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / best yarn for summer knits on: July 28, 2005 03:07:05 PM
This may seem like an odd post for all of you Northern Hemisphere craftsters, but we are swinging right into spring right now (in New Zealand).  So, I just wanted opinions on the best yarns to use for spring/summer knits.  Wool is easiest to get here (Think more sheep than people!), but I'm sure that would be too hot for a tank.  I know cotton is nice.  What about acrylic?  I'm thinking the courtelle stuff...nice colors and soft.

P.S.  I know that silk and linen would be lovely, but they are just out of my budget right now.  Undecided
Think practical, but pretty.

Thanks!
