1  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends on: November 05, 2009 04:19:17 PM
So every year, I usually get roped into planning the costumes at work. (I'm an elementary school art teacher.) Each year I try to think of a theme that the kids will like and will be fun. Normally, I have to start in early September. This year I chose Foster's Home. I made and/or assembled all costumes except for the kid.

   



 Here's a list of what I did for each costume:

FRONT ROW:

Eduardo: Made the belt, Dyed the sweatshirt, Paper mached and painted the face and horns.

The home billboard: Drew and colored, Added ribbon to tie it on.

Mr. Herriman: Made the face and hat from foam and paper mache, Shortened the men's suit jacket and sewed the parts of the vest inside the front, Sewed "belly panel" T-shirt from 2 t-shirts, Sewed and painted foot spats from felt.

Wilt: Sewed, stuffed and painted head/hat, Made hand from felt, Painted body on clothing, Sewed and painted sneaker spats from felt.

Bloo: Sewed and painted from blue felt.

Madame Foster: Paper mached and painted wig, Put electrical tape on candy cane decoration for cane.

Duchess (Me): Assembled head piece/facial features from foam, vaccuum hose, turby twist towel, brooch, and paint, Cut and painted robe for dress and sewed stand-up panel for collar, Made jewelry from shrinky-dinks and wood beads, Made tail from aluminum wire, masking tape, electrical tape, cardboard, and paint.

BACK ROW:

Coco: Made head feathers from loopy wire, feather boas, styrofoam balls, a hat, and spray paint, Made beak/neckpiece from floral foam, paper mache, and spray paint, Sewed shirt for 2 color belly panel, Constructed bird body from mini-blind slats, masking tape, hot glue, fabric, and paint, Dyed tights, Paper mached bird feet from ballet flats and painted.

Frankie: Spray painted foam wig, Painted T-shirt.

Goo: Paper mached and painted hair, Shortened overalls to shorts, Spray painted old cowboy boots yellow.

Mac: Glued fur to foam wig, Painted dots on sleeves. (EASY one, haha!)

Cheese: Paper mached and painted head, Dyed sweats.

Whew! I think thats it. Anything not specifically mentioned (ex. Goos rainbow sweater, Macs red T-shirt) was bought and not hand crafted. But it was bought by me (then reimbursed by the wearer). Lucky find on Goos sweater, no?

Anyhow, I was super stoked. This might have been the best year yet! Hope you guys like it!  Grin

OH! I almost forgot! What you can't really see in the picture. I scanned my Board of Ed badge and photoshopped each of the character's pictures and names onto the badge so we were each "official" teachers! lol I think those were my favorite part.

OK, is anyone else NOT liking where BD is going? I'm on pg 308 and I've been hoping it gets better for about 170 pages or so.

PS. You don't need that 'spensive tomato hangy thing. You can make your own from a 5 gallon bucket. My dad and I did that this year. I have 16 of them hanging in my yard. You can get the buckets for a buck a piece from the bakery at Sam's club too. Makes it even cheaper!

OK, so I've been dealing with some house issues and I apologize to my wonderful partner for taking so long to post her talented goodies. I made out like a bandit!

First up: Really cute crocheted zombie finger earrings.

A zombie toaster purse taken (and altered) from the toaster purse in my wist.

A hysterical tote bag that I put to use right away! (side note, my brother said "Yeah, that's cool but no one but us will know that this is funny." Even better in my opinion. haha I love secret jokes.)



And last but not least.......Fido!

No, Fido! Don't eat my kitty's brain! Oh no! Poor Ol' Greeeg!


(haha, yes, I know I'm easily amused....)

SO there you have it. Probably the best zombie package ever!
