1  Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends in Halloween Costumes by sporkchick on: November 05, 2009 04:19:17 PM
So every year, I usually get roped into planning the costumes at work. (I'm an elementary school art teacher.) Each year I try to think of a theme that the kids will like and will be fun. Normally, I have to start in early September. This year I chose Foster's Home. I made and/or assembled all costumes except for the kid.

Here's a list of what I did for each costume:

FRONT ROW:

Eduardo: Made the belt, Dyed the sweatshirt, Paper mached and painted the face and horns.

The home billboard: Drew and colored, Added ribbon to tie it on.

Mr. Herriman: Made the face and hat from foam and paper mache, Shortened the men's suit jacket and sewed the parts of the vest inside the front, Sewed "belly panel" T-shirt from 2 t-shirts, Sewed and painted foot spats from felt.

Wilt: Sewed, stuffed and painted head/hat, Made hand from felt, Painted body on clothing, Sewed and painted sneaker spats from felt.

Bloo: Sewed and painted from blue felt.

Madame Foster: Paper mached and painted wig, Put electrical tape on candy cane decoration for cane.

Duchess (Me): Assembled head piece/facial features from foam, vaccuum hose, turby twist towel, brooch, and paint, Cut and painted robe for dress and sewed stand-up panel for collar, Made jewelry from shrinky-dinks and wood beads, Made tail from aluminum wire, masking tape, electrical tape, cardboard, and paint.

BACK ROW:

Coco: Made head feathers from loopy wire, feather boas, styrofoam balls, a hat, and spray paint, Made beak/neckpiece from floral foam, paper mache, and spray paint, Sewed shirt for 2 color belly panel, Constructed bird body from mini-blind slats, masking tape, hot glue, fabric, and paint, Dyed tights, Paper mached bird feet from ballet flats and painted.

Frankie: Spray painted foam wig, Painted T-shirt.

Goo: Paper mached and painted hair, Shortened overalls to shorts, Spray painted old cowboy boots yellow.

Mac: Glued fur to foam wig, Painted dots on sleeves. (EASY one, haha!)

Cheese: Paper mached and painted head, Dyed sweats.

Whew! I think thats it. Anything not specifically mentioned (ex. Goos rainbow sweater, Macs red T-shirt) was bought and not hand crafted. But it was bought by me (then reimbursed by the wearer). Lucky find on Goos sweater, no?

Anyhow, I was super stoked. This might have been the best year yet! Hope you guys like it!  Grin

OH! I almost forgot! What you can't really see in the picture. I scanned my Board of Ed badge and photoshopped each of the character's pictures and names onto the badge so we were each "official" teachers! lol I think those were my favorite part.

A zombie toaster purse taken (and altered) from the toaster purse in my wist.

A hysterical tote bag that I put to use right away! (side note, my brother said "Yeah, that's cool but no one but us will know that this is funny." Even better in my opinion. haha I love secret jokes.)

And last but not least.......Fido!

No, Fido! Don't eat my kitty's brain! Oh no! Poor Ol' Greeeg!

Zack:

Despite appearances, I don't beat him. And he doesn't know that Zeke is my fav.  Cheesy Actually, most people like him best because he's the runt of the litter. Runtiness is cute. I think that's part of the reason Zeke is my favorite. I don't want him to feel slighted by the general public liking Zack better.  Tongue

I disturbed his afternoon nap. I think that's his Mummy-what-the-heck-are-you-doing Look.

Feel free to post better and/or action shots when your computer gets better, Edel. Just trying to help you out.  Smiley
