1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Advent Calendar (complete w/ photos) on: November 20, 2006 12:04:25 PM

I had a lot of fun making this funky-cool advent calendar.  Its a dollar store cookie sheet, painted, with added decorative papers.  The fun part is making the 25 magnets out of all sorts of cool stuff I had laying around. I saw instructions here:
http://teresamcfayden.typepad.com/minutia/

The idea is to store the magnets on the other side and as the days go by, add a magnet each day.  I love the feel of it.
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / catnip mouse on: February 21, 2004 08:10:59 AM

I made a little catnip mouse out of felt and added a heart for extra cuteness.

All you do is fold the felt and cut out a taco shape.  Whip stitch the top and leave an opening in the back.  Stuff in stuffing and catnip.  I added a tail made of braided embroidery thread and sewed it closed.  Then all you have to do is cut out ear shapes and sew on and make little knots for the eyes.  Easy, quick and cute.  I have a big tub of catnip from the pet store for $3, I can make a ton of these critters for my friends with cats.

cheers,

Anu

p.s. make sure you sew everything securely so the cats don't eat the parts.

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / tiny teddy on: January 16, 2004 05:22:51 AM

Made from directions in the book "Sewing Tiny Toys" by Carolyn Vosburg Hall.  This is my first attempt at a stuffed animal and it was easy.  Its fully jointed and about 3 inches tall.  I can't believe I could understand the directions :-)
8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / christmas memory book on: December 12, 2003 04:03:30 AM
I read about this idea in "Romancing the Ordinary" by Sarah Ban Breathnach.

Basically take a blank notebook and put in it seasonal stuff like recipes you used and liked that year, greeting card list, photos, snippets of cards, tags or ribbons that you like, the card you sent out, what gifts you gave others, memorable holiday outings, gifts you received etc etc.

This can be a nice jog for the memory next year in both a practical and a sentimental way.

I started mine this year and put a label and some stickers on a dollar store notebook. I made a pocket on the inside front cover to hold the Xmas card that I sent out.   I have my greeting card list taped in there, along with my gift list and what I put in each package along with neat ideas that I've seen to use for next year so that I won't forget.

cheers,

Anu
9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Record Notebook on: December 02, 2003 05:02:24 PM
Here is a cute notebook I made with a "sound of music" record I got at the thrift shop for 25 cents.

I heated the record over an electric burner and then cut the edges with a heavy duty paper trimmer. (Wear an oven mit when you do this.  I heated one edge at a time. )  It makes a nice clean edge.

I used a dremel tool to make holes on the sides and also put in some eyelets. The back is the front cover of the record trimmed to the same size.   I made the holes kind of small so I used twine to hold the covers and paper together.  I have some binder rings for the next one.

I also used some fine sandpaper on the edges to get nice smooth, non-sharp edges.  Easy-peasy :-)

cheers,

Anu
10  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / little books on: November 29, 2003 05:33:27 AM
I've been having lots of fun making mini books from the instructions on this site.  Its 5-stitch bookbinding and its easy and fast.

http://www.zumgaligali.com/projects/bookbinding/book_5st_1.html

I like to use food boxes for the covers like cookie and cereal boxes.  I added eyelets to the last one for extra cuteness :-)

cheers,

Anu
