1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Trying to knit a picture into the front of a hat.... on: August 10, 2006 05:48:04 AM
My friend is trying to make a black hat with a white skull on the front.  Here are the problems:

1.  We don't want to keep tying knots everytime we get around to the skull...too bumpy, and I think it would not lay flat.

2.  So instead of reattaching the white yarn everytime, we figured we could just carry along the white as we did the black.  Since she is knitting in the round (we aren't sure how else to make a hat), when the skull is started it seems that the white yarn has to be carried around and around even though it is only over showing in the skull in the front.  Carrying the white around and around is making this hat take forever!

-->How can I get my white yarn back to the 'beginning' of the skull so I can knit with it next time I come around.....without carring it around!!  Is this possible?

3.  Even if we had the patience to carry the white around and around (i forget what the name for this is, learned it in stitch n bitch--i think it is intarsia or fair isle?) there is the whole problem of the carried-along white yarn not being as stretchy as the knitted black yarn.  The hat would end up not fitting on anyone's head.

Any advise would be appreciated!  Let me know if the post doesn't make since, I am a fairly new knitter so I don't have all the lingo down yet.

Thanks!

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Necklace I made for my friend's bday on: June 29, 2006 08:44:22 AM
I made this necklace for my friend's bday.  All she said was that her favorite color was Burgundy, so this is what I came up with.....It took a few hours.  Also, when laying on the floor it all lines up ok, but when you put it on it pulls a little funny....I'll just pretend i meant it to be that way Smiley

and here is my cat modeling it (backwards though)

First time poster here.

I made this collage for my friends bday....just random magazine clippings that were red.  People seem to respond pretty well to these gifts, I have done others but I forgot to take pictures.  Sorry about the glare on the pictures, my camera does funny stuff when I try turning the flash off.

Any suggestions forgetting things less wrinkley?  I just used ModgePodge

apologies for the glare again!
