117  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Crochet and Carnelian and Shells oh my! (img heavy) on: May 13, 2006 09:47:59 PM
Just a few things that I was working on today after a visit to 'Bling Bling', one of the bead stores down on Queen St. W. here in Toronto. I just started beading after a long time and I'm really excited about the infinite possibilities.

The two with carnelian are for my mom for Mother's Day. the other two will be offered as prizes at my friend's bridal shower next week.

PS. My mom is a high school teacher and her school colours are black and orange just in case you're wondering about the hallowe'en colours!

This is my first project post here on craftster! Yay!

I found this at the Goodwill down the street and thought it was great. I added some cool shell buttons and star shaped beads for interest. I chose not to add a face, I'm not exactly sure why, it just seemed to work better that way for some reason.

1. Sheryl Crow

2. Rockin' Out Guitar Star

120  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: *Vintage Dressmaker's Dummy Lamp* on: April 26, 2006 03:32:53 PM
Hi there!

I realize this post is rather old now but I just wanted to reply to one thing here.. I bought a mannequin torso last year with the idea of making it into a lamp and I actually found a lamp stand at Goodwill for about 4 bucks to stand the mannequin on. Maybe that would work for stability for your dummy-lamp?

Unfortunately I'm scared to make a hole in the top for the lamp cord (it's made of a kind of thick styrofoam that seems to crack easily but for now it's sitting, painted bright blue and wearing a green t-shirt, in my living room and it served as a cool alternative to a Christmas tree this past year when I tied pine boughs around it as a skirt!
