1  Bette Davis' All About Eve Dress -- a crazy question in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by vorare on: January 07, 2008 11:34:09 PM
Hello friends and lovers! I'm invited in two weeks to a "dead celebrities" costume party, and in my wildest of dreams I go as Bette Davis as Margo Channing from All About Eve.

My question is: do you know of a pattern or a method that might approximate Margo's party dress?

There's also a video on YouTube and replicas pictured here in fabric and here in polymer clay.

I'm not much of a tailor/seamstress, so I'd love to have some idea of what I'm up against. And seriously, this would make my life. Talk about having every Halloween sewn up for the rest of your life, eh? (No pun intended!)

2  Re: Tote Bag Swap Gallery May June 2006 in The Swap Gallery by vorare on: June 26, 2006 05:39:25 PM
First of all, I am so impressed and inspired by all the bags people have made for this swap. If anyone ever needed a reason to learn to sew, they'd only have to look at this thread.

Island-princess sent me this absolutely gorgeous brown tote bag with bamboo handles!

The outside:

The great velcro pocket (I love the look of the fabrics being swapped; you know, the dominant fabric on the outside becomes the accenting one on the inside):

And to give you some idea of the depth:

I'm experiencing a little bit of (first!) swap anxiety since her work is so sophisticated and professional and mine is so... not, but I know I'm not alone in that feeling. And this bag is more than able to make me feel better.  Grin Thank you so so so much to island-princess for being a great swap partner and to redheadmenace for pulling off this whole thing. I can't wait to see the rest of the bags you all made!
