91  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / before you get in over your head... on: April 18, 2006 06:33:43 PM
do not, i repeat, DO NOT, offer to sew anyones air force patches on their uniforms unless you are way better at sewing than me!!! this has been bugging me as long as i have been working on it. some of them aren't so bad, but there are these ones that you have to fold in on all sides to get them to be the right size and it's so difficult!! but i'm doing it, anyway because it is worth saving the ridiculous $7 per patch that they charge on base!!

sorry, had to share that with someone.
92  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / HELP!--first skirt on: April 18, 2006 03:16:42 PM
i'm trying to make this tiered simplicity skirt, the really long one

ooh, sorry so blurry. hurts my eyes.

anyway, even though i compared it with a skirt i have, the top layer is going to have to be worn way higher on the waist than i am comfortable with. it's called a yoke, and the only difference i can see between it and the rest of the layers is it is not gathered. and of course it will eventually contain the elastic. can i just leave that layer out and start at 2? and if i do that, should i gather 2 or no? i have included pictures of the instruction page. thanks for any help!!

93  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / my first!! on: April 17, 2006 10:57:08 AM
this is the very first thing i've ever sewn (other than pillows made entirely of tissue when i was young and wanted to be like my mommy).

i realized after it was complete that it was a little big so i went back and tried to fix it. but i made it a little small around the butt, and as you can see it bunches up in some areas. plus, it makes my boobs look a little funny. anyway, i like it, and i'm very pleased as it is the first thing i've made. i might send it to a friend who's less shapely. it might work better with her figure.
94  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / not quite sewing on: April 17, 2006 09:51:50 AM
so i saw this shirt in a magazine a wanted it so badly but i did not want to pay the asking price.

so my friend and i decided to make one. i used felt to cut out the shapes and then she sewed it on with a zigzag stitch.

i had the fire coming out of the end too, but it was right at the band to my pants and it folded weird. and i like mine better!!
