1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Day of the Dead Cross-Stitch on: March 10, 2007 07:18:50 AM
So this pattern was posted by xladyluckx in a pattern disscussion thread a while ago.  As soon as I saw it I totally fell in love.  It doesn't hurt that all I've been hanging out with only people from Mexico lately, and they are all slowly converting me...lol.  Anyways, I finished this about three days after the pattern was posted.  I stitched my little heart out all weekend.  For me this was pretty much the perfect pattern.  All bright colours.  None of those stupid half-stitches.  No back-stitching.  And it's designed in easy-to-finish blocks, so immensely gratifying.

Thank you so much for the pattern xladyluckx!!

2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Dollar Store Craft Section???? on: January 07, 2007 11:31:20 AM
So I work at a Buck or Two in B.C. and I've just been put in charge of the craft section at our store.  This includes all ordering too.  So I'm just wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions as to things I should get.  I do do most types of crafting, but there are things like Scrapbooking, that I'm just not that into, so I really don't know what I should be ordering, or those certain items that I just HAVE to have.  There are so many cool things that I want to get, but I would love it if all you could chime in with your ideas, you know, to get a differnt perspective.  I don't want to get all things that only I would like....
Thank you so much!
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / My new, fancy, multi-coloured dress!! (Image Heavy) on: September 03, 2006 09:17:22 PM
I found out that I had not one, but two weddings to go to at the beginning of August.  My cousin was getting married as was one of my best freinds.  These are both very special people to me, so I wanted to look my best for the weddings, and that meant a new dress!

I was very inspired by IamTheShelbster's beautiful dress she posted a couple of months back, and decided to try her painting technique myself.

I was originally going to do the dress in purple and green only, but then I found out those were my friends wedding colours, so I decided to add some more in, and I actually like it better this way.

I started making the dress like three months ago, but because it's me, and I'm such a good procrastinator, I didn't actually finish the dress until about 15 mins before we left for the church for my friend's wedding!  I really have to thank my mom....she was doing the hem for me while I did my hair and makeup...she was a lifesaver.

I originally wanted to do the dress freestyle on a body form, but my mom talked me into using a pattern.  I'm not the best person to use a pattern cause I get frustrated really easily, plus finding a pattern that will fit me properly is IMPOSSIBLE!  I can't remember the pattern I used, but it required extensive alterations, but I really like the way it turned out.

So enough of me blabbling, and on the dress.

This is me and my friend Char at the wedding.

And here are a couple of more pictures that I took after getting home that night.

And because I spent all that time making this dress, I had to have the accessories to go along with it.

My necklace:

And my hairpins, made out of flowers from a Hawaiin lei:

I'm so excited to have a fancy dress....now if I just had somewhere else to wear it..... Wink
