edamame: I'd love to know more about this "solvy plastic stuff". . . What is it?
Your butterfly is kick ass!  I know I am totally NOT capable of that kind of detail work with a machine.  I'm just now learning how to control the machine . . . a LITTLE bit. . .

Awesome job!

girlthursday -- Actually, the vinyl isn't much trouble, but I do have to leave a substatial gap in the lining to get the strap out without a problem.  The only slight difficulty is getting all the corners completely "turned out" -- if that makes any sense.  I use the eraser end of a pencil to poke the corners and get a nice sharp shape.

And I've seen three different "thicknesses" of vinyl.  One is pretty thick, but pretty sponge-y and soft.  One is transparent and super thin.  And the last one is thin but has an annoying layer of "fur" or something on the back.  I've had less success with the latter two.

donhae -- awesome place to find anything and everything, isn't it?  I'm sure you'll come across something spectacular.  Let me know if you find a place that offers a gold vinyl with glitter sparkles!

Great job on the lining and zipper!

I am too excited to make this clutch!  It rocks in too many, many ways!  Thanks for the tutorial.  I'm going to try it out in vinyl . . .or tweed. . . ooh!

{I need to stop using so many exclamation marks. . . really, it's becoming a problem. . . }

girlthursday!  I love those pochettes!  Could you spell it phonetically for me so that I can pronounce it properly??  I think the tassles are a lovely touch!  Plus, I love how you added the square bottom.  I'm definitely going to try that.

donhae!  I have absolutely fallen in LOVE with vinyl.  I'm actually teetering on obsessed . . . I dream of payday when I can scurry over and buy it in purple, teal, lime and pink. . .
That said, I have had only three contradictory experiences with vinyl:

The first one I bought was cool and actually the very first I had worked with.  But, I couldn't sew on the "right" side of the vinyl without totally damaging it.  The second one I bought was kick ass perfect!  I could sew on either side with equal, impressive success.  The third piece I bought was lame and stuck to my foot and was slightly damaged when I stitched on the right side.  I don't know anything about why one was good and the other was not . . . I'm going to do some research . . .

I pay about $9 for a yard of vinyl.  It's a large bolt, so I get a nice big piece for those 9 bucks.  I'm not sure if its a good deal or not, but I figure it is because I live in a border city and our downtown is considered dirt cheap and I buy it at a downtown shop.

I also don't know about the vinyl brand.  I'll check next time I'm in the shop, but as far as I know its just generic vinyl.  It comes in so many colors and is quite popular with the local lowriders who want purple vinyl seats.  On that note, the shop I buy from *probably* doesn't have an online shop -- its all locally owned and small -- but, again, I'll double check and get back to you.

I suggest that you google "buy vinyl fabric" or something like that for possible online shopping experiences. . . Then let us know what you find! Smiley

Great idea to make them into wristlets!

I used photo transfer paper on off-white canvas for the last two plus sequins and a little butterfly I made by free-hand machine embroidery on solvy plastic.

PS!  This butterfly embroidery ROCKS!!  I can't believe it's freehand with a machine!  I must know how it's done!

WOW!  I think you guys have done a great job with the tutorial!!

Here's what my sister and I have been working on. . .
http://www.texashautesauce.com/images/Tutorial/zippedpouches.jpg

We added a strap as I saw Magnolia and Funklordtoejam do, as well as pinkninky, on her post here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=23608.msg232986#msg232986 -- which I thought seriously rocked!  The bags we made here were exactly the same, but from this fabulous, easy to sew through vinyl that I found at this fabric store which carries TONS of vinyl especially for upholstering car furniture.  We're selling these on our website and we're so happy that this vinyl comes in about 20 different colors!

I love seeing everyone's finished products!  Please keep the pics coming!

You're so right.  I think I just had a brain fart because it makes so much sense that I'm embarrassed that I even asked!

Thanks!  I'll try it today . . . and maybe I'll even post pics!

I'm trying to make a cylindrical pencil case about 12" long with a zipper and lining. Something like this:

{Please excuse my cheesy paintbrush drawing}
Does anyone have a pattern or know where I can find one?  If not, any tips you can provide?

Anything and everything is appreciated!
