531  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Something to let a certain boy know I still love him on: May 31, 2006 05:39:30 PM
I haven't been in the best spirits lately. It's my senior year of highschool and I've been particularly stressed with all those applications, deadlines and the such. I have a really low tolerance with people because of all this crap...especially with the boyfriend. I've been trying to think of some nice little things to make for him to let him know that it's nothing he's doing in particular, but I'm at a loss.

He's a drummer and he recently took up the guitar and I've been thinking about knitting him some kind of cool intarsia design guitar strap but I don't think it'd be particulary supportive (it'd be kind of stretchy). He was originally born in Israel and he speaks Hebrew but he's a terrible Jew...

So if anyone has any ideas for little gifts or tips on that guitar strap i'd love to hear them. Smiley Thanks, guys.

You could trash my computer with this art anyday. It truly takes talent to paint something like this. God knows I can't paint shit. I just bought new paints and some canvases and keep on messing up. I haven't really found my style yet, but I hope I find it soon.

Just wanted to say I love it.

:-)

<3 Thanks!
533  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Come one come all post your new tattoo IDEAS! on: May 29, 2006 07:48:08 PM
I have been sitting on two ideas for a really long time and I finally paid a visit to my tattoo artist in Rochester who is going to design and execute my backpiece in the fall when I am back next and then work on it on subsequent visits.

The backpiece will begin about an couple inches below a normal shirt neckline and continue down to about my bra-line. It will stretch from shoulder blade to shoulder blade but not all the way across my back. It will be two koi, one a more yellowey orange and the other a more reddish orange, with two waterliles, one pink, one purple and tons of beautiful undulating waves in blues/greens/turqoise etc. for a background. The style is pretty traditional so bold outlines and bright colors, not too realistic, but I want to preserve the detail, especially in the water so it while not "realistic" it won't be too overly stylized.

The second tattoo(s) I am getting June, it will be a pair of blue birds of happiness, the traditional sailor-type tattoo kind, one right above each hip bone, so right above the top of my underwear on my lower stomach. They will be flying angled in and down (like people have on their shoulder blades only on my lower belly) and I want the wings out to the sides but still pretty compact into the body. No pudgy headed birds either, I don't like the look if their heads are too pugdy, a little more streamlined looking birdies for me. The bodies will be blue with yellow bellies and I want them to each have a little background bit that looks like they are flying on flames. A little hard to describe but I have a good tattoo artist in mind and I can draw stick figures to illustrate my ideas.

If this thread goes as long as the other one I'll be able to post finished product pictures soon!

This is a tat my friend got on her 18th birthday. It's two big koi and it's in the center of her back. It's really painterly and I love that about it.

That looks pretty awesome! Why a buffalo? I like the tumbleweed too.

I just have a particular affinity for 'em. They're kind of symbolic of survival, and heartiness and strength. The tumbleweed is there as a reminder of disparaging times, but it's dwarfed in comparison to the buffalo.

535  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Mittens in tha' spring on: May 29, 2006 07:29:10 PM
i think these are perfect for spring... the yarn does give off the essence of moss... maybe you could sub in little flower buttons if you made more! and also, your mouse is SOOO cute.... my mom won't let me get one, plus i'm  afraid she'll panic and kill it or call the exterminator... but great job on the mittens... also, do you happen to remember what yarn that was?

Glad you dig the mittens Wink. I don't remember exactly what yarn or what color it is  because it'd been in my stash for over a year and it lost it's little paper band thing. I do know that it was some sort of "Joann Sensations" yarn. I've been looking for it online but I can't find it. Your best hope is to go to Joann's and just look around for it.

By the way you guys, I didn't mean for that "senior visual arts major" thing to come off so braggy. I reread it and I was like...wow, I sounded like a douche.

You have a whole lot of potential. Your proportions are good and the biggest piece of advice I could give you is to use really fine cross hatching to shade and to NOT rub it. When shading is rubbed in like that it looks messy. I have a vendetta against it.

And the best way to improve and develop your own style is to draw everyday. Even if it's a little sketch of your hand on the corner of a napkin, it's good to stay consistent.

I quite admire that painting.
Gotta give it to big, voluptuous women.  Wink

This is just more or less a collection of... A LOT OF STUFF that I've been doing this past year. By the way, I go to a special arts focused high school. I'm a senior visual arts major.  Wink

This is the first of a 2 panel series of insect paintings. Entitled "Estrangement".

This is the second. It's called "Self-Absorption".

Just a pen drawing in my sketchbook...candle .

Fine line ink drawing of random items, including a stuffed lobster, an old shoe, and an iced tea carton.

Just some nude studies done on address labels.

I have a whole lot more that I'll post eventually, but I don't want to totally crash your computer.
Enjoy!
