1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Four skeins of NEON acrylic yarn... on: December 30, 2004 04:49:06 PM
...any ideas on what I could possibly do with it all?  And when I say "NEON", I mean neon.  This stuff is seriously bright:  1 skein hotttt pink; 2 skeins less violently hot pink, and 2 of this DOT cone-esque neon orange.  I'm a thrift store junkie and I got 'em all at one of my local shops for $2.  I have no idea what to do with them, but I just couldn't pass them up.  I'm lucky I limited myself to just the 4 I got--there was a whole basket of this stuff.  I haven't yet decided why I like it, as it's just so damn ugly...but maybe that's exactly why I like it...
Anyway, I need some inspiration--the yarn's not one of those new-fangled acrylics that's soft and fuzzy.  This stuff is old school...
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Can I turn my knitted shawl into a poncho [or similar]? on: November 05, 2004 09:58:24 AM
I recently finished a shawl--or an attempt at a shawl/wrap thing--and upon finishing it I realized that it's just a bit too wide and a bit too short to be any sort of wrap I'd want to wear in public.  As it is now, it works great as a small, portable blankie to keep me warm on cool evenings at home--but that's not what I was aiming for.  The shape of it [a wide rectangle] and the overall size make me think of some of the more modern-ish ponchos I've seen lately;  you know, the type that are basically a rectangle with a diagonal slit in the middle of the piece.
Sooooo...can I convert my botched wrap to a poncho-ish thing without totally destroying my handiwork? How?
It's Patons Divine yarn done in a knit stich on size 13s [this was only my second knitted thing, so I kept it simple.  of course, I didn't use a pattern, which is probably why I'm in this mess.] so it's sort of an open-weave [you know, as opposed to, say...a stockinette stich].
Or...should I just wait until Divine is on sale again at the MegaCraft Mart and start over...
