41  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Tattoos at Wedding? on: April 11, 2007 01:36:02 PM
Here's something I've been thinking about for awhile, and hopefully it's okay to post here - maybe someone can figure out a crafty solution for me Smiley

I've got tattoos.  Only two of them matter, since anything else will be covered.  The first is about 4x4 on my shoulder, which may or may not show, depending on the style of dress I get.  The second is about 1x2 on the back of my leg/ankle, and will pretty much have to show no matter what.

My questions:
1.  Is it tacky for the bride's tattoos to show?  I'm kind of iffy on the subject, and my FH would just as soon they show, but I have older family that's conservative, so... what do you think?
2.  Is there any way that you know of (preferably crafty) to cover them up?  Any specific makeup you know of?  Some super secret mixture of household products?  I know that there are tattoo-cover kits out there, but all the ones I've seen have gotten bad reviews or are really expensive for not knowing how well they'd work.

Help, please!
42  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Photo Booth? on: March 28, 2007 02:04:06 PM
Instead of renting out a photo booth (which would cost about 2500 for a day in these parts) for a wedding, how would one go about making one?  I've googled this to no end but haven't been able to come up with something easy and low-tech.

One idea was to put up some sort of background, set up a box of props (maybe), and let guests take pictures with disposable cameras that would be set out - there would probably have to be some signage to let people know what the stuff was for, but:

1.  ideas on how to execute a photo booth?
2.  if you were at a wedding with the background/props/disposable camera set-up, would you think it was weird and hokey, or fun and innovative?
3.  opinions about props?  yea or nay?  what sort of props should be included, if they were present?
4.  opinions on backgrounds?  solid color, or something more fun?

thanks in advance!   Grin
43  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Getting Tartan onto Wood? [NOW WITH PICTURE] on: March 25, 2007 08:50:57 AM
Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place as I'm not sure where else it'd go.  I'm trying to put a specific tartan design (which is kinda plaid, in case you're fuzzy on what tartans look like) on a letter made out of wood.  It's an olde english M, which means it has a lot of little appendages that would make it hard to wrap it in actual tartan or paper made to look like the tartan.

what would be ideal is some sort of paint-technique, but i'm not sure how i would go about doing this.  alternatively, does anyone provide something that would work for this project as a service?

please help, if you can.  thanks in advance!   Cheesy

45  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Knit Tote? on: March 13, 2007 04:11:23 PM
Okay, I looked all through the knitting board and even did a search with no results.  Here's my question:

I'm not sure if this is do-able, but what I have in mind is a knitted tote bag of sorts, roughly the same shape as a standard tote, with straps.  I am a novice knitter at best and thus far my endeavors have been limited to scarves, hats knitted in the round, and things constructed of squares.

1.  Is this too big of an undertaking for someone with such limited skills?
2.  Would it be easier/look better/take less time to knit it in pieces on straight needles and then assemble it rather than knitting it in circulars (then attaching straps)?  Or vice versa?
3.  Do you have any advice or words of caution before I think about getting started?
46  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / First Hat on: November 15, 2006 05:57:07 PM
This is my first hat!  Once I got the hang of it, it only took me a couple of hours - it's made of Lion's Brand Black yarn on 10 1/2 inch circular needles....  thanks to everyone who answered my stupid questions before i started!

50  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Vegetarian Pot-Luck Recipes on: October 15, 2006 08:52:33 AM
My department at work is having a pot-luck for Halloween.  I'm expected to bring something, and, since I'm the only veggie here, it's got to be something good that I can and will want to eat.

Here's the difficulty:
-I hate tofu.
-The recipe has to be good cold or easily microwavable - the nuke is the only heating element available.

Any suggestions?
