1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / PMS color (Pantone) to DMC Floss on: October 24, 2007 01:19:01 PM
I am trying to match a specific PMS (Pantone) color to DMC Floss.  Does anyone know where I might be able to do this?  The PMS color I am trying to match is 645.

Thanks, in advance, for any help you can give!

2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Punch needle help on: June 19, 2007 12:49:46 PM
HELP!!  I couldn't resist any longer, I had to go to Michaels last night and buy a punch needle kit and tool (both manufactured by Dimensions).  I went home and changed up the colors in the kit (while the colors were cute, they weren't exactly my style) and got to punching.  I ran into several issues the largest of which was the tendency for the needle portion of the punch needle to push into the tube (instead of sticking out 1/2 inch or so the needle tip was just barely hanging out of the tube) - I had to continually pull the needle out (each time I put any sort of pressure on it to get it in the weave, the tip would sink back into the tube).  I got frustrated and put it down after about an hour.  Has anyone had any experience like this?  If so, how did you remedy it?

Thanks, in advance!

3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Stitching on vinyl backed bibs on: March 27, 2007 02:49:55 PM
My best friend, who was told she would never have kids of her own, found out (entirely by accident) that she's going to have a baby in June - - she wasn't growing out or anything but was feeling sick and by chance, the doc did an ultrasound and lo-and-behold, she's 6 months along!  SURPRISE!!

At any rate, I got a super deal on some vinyl backed bibs at target (10 for $9) and tried stitching one up the other night.  Problem #1 - the heat from the iron caused the vinyl to bubble up a bit - didn't melt but it definately didn't like the heat.  Problem #2 - when going through the vinyl in the back, I noticed that sometimes it wasn't smooth but almost tore the vinyl.  I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with stitching on these?  I want to make her a basketful of goodies (already knitting a baby sweater too).

Any advice/suggestions are appreciated!

4  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / New here - so excited to get started! on: December 07, 2006 11:31:34 AM
Hi all!  I am new to this board - and actually new to embroidery as well.  I am a knitter, a spinner, a jewelry maker and a photographer so I've done it all!  I bought the kit last night @ Barnes and Noble and then ordered four of the kits online at SS this morning - I'm jumping in head first!!  Any advice/encouragement for a newbie is much appreciated - I just love everything I've seen on the SS site and can't wait to get started.

5  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Discussion and Questions / Rigid Heddle Loom? on: April 07, 2006 07:42:00 AM
I am hoping to get a rigid heddle loom for my birthday in May but was wondering what the best one was?  There are so many to choose from and I just don't know where to begin.  I am a new weaver so this is all greek to me at this point!  Thanks so much in advance!
