My Betty Crocker veggie cookbook has a recipe for a salad with butternut squash in it.  Roast butternut and pear slices with butter or margarine.  Serve them with chopped red cabbage, bits of granny smith apple, toasted walnuts, and raspberry vinagrette.

Boyfriend loved this.  I mostly had fun imagining it was some kind of Martian food, what with all the bright purple and orange.

Hi, I know this post is pretty old now, but for anyone else who looks at this later here's my varnishing gummy bears anecdote.

I used Delta Ceramcoat Gloss Interior Varnish.  It's waterbased and meant for use over paint, and NOT the right sort of varnish.  Two coats and it still just cracks off the gummies.  Meanwhile, I wrecked a whole set of pins because now they're all sticky and impossible to pull out of the gummies without accidentally pulling out the heads as well.

So yeah.... get the varnish they said above, definitely not this stuff.

I still want to try this again.

Kinda depends on how your guy is.  I don't think it's too girly, the letters are nice and I would give something like that to mine.  If you're giving it to him w/ cookies, he'll probably notice those more than a little bit of glitter anyways.
