1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Ironing Cross-stitch? on: June 05, 2009 07:58:34 AM
I stitched a cross-stitch pattern (made-up as I went along, not following an existing one) and didn't use a hoop or anything. I also folded the fabric for transportation.
Now I want the piece to be smooth. Can I iron the fabric and get a good result? I probably don't want to touch the thread, right?
2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Blue Eyes. on: October 22, 2007 06:04:02 PM
I did this for art class last year - it was pretty much a do-what-you-like painting thing. It took me a long time to finish, because I wanted to get the texture just right.
It is acrylic on canvas, about 20" x 15.5". The red "mouth" part is electrical tape.

Inspiration: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heatherica/60969674/. The original idea was to use words to form a mouth, which would say "Let me speak for myself", but that was too tiny to do right, so I used tape in the end to convey censorship, especially of women.

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Chavi's Fingerless Mittens on: September 25, 2007 04:43:43 PM
I'm looking for a warm DK/light-worsted yarn to make some fingerless gloves (http://mashpitsknits.blogspot.com/2007/09/cabled-fingerless-mittens.html - aren't they gorgeous?).
Preferably something affordable. I'll be needing under or around 170yds.

Any suggestions? Recommendations? Yarn to stay away from?
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / The Gallivant Bag on: September 02, 2007 05:58:29 PM
While browsing Etsy, I came across this bag: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=6941929

I love its shape and size, and want to try and make one for myself. My question is if this was made on straight needles, or on circulars, or if it'd be easier on circulars.
The ribbing on looks like it's sideways, so I'm thinking it was pieced together.

Ideas? Comments? Yarn suggestions?
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Craft Blogging on: March 17, 2007 12:04:52 PM
I know tons of Craftsters also have crafting, knitting, quilting etc. blogs.

What websites do you use for your blog? Do tell!

I've tried using Blogger, but for some reason the front page just doesn't load for me, so I can't get in and update. It's really very annoying.
Any websites you'd like to recommend (preferably free)?
6  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Discussion and Questions / Fulling a sweater - first attempt! on: March 15, 2007 10:42:23 AM
This is my first time felting. I have felted a 100% wool sweater, and am happy with the results save for the shedding. When I run my hands over it, there's always little hairs stuck to my hand.

Any tips to deal with this?

Thanks so much.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Simple Flower Pin w/ Tute Link on: August 09, 2006 01:22:05 PM
Just made a very simple flower pin today, fabric from a thrifted skirt.

I love this tutorial, it's easy but there are so many ways to make it unique, using as many or as little different fabrics as you like and also embellishments:

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / How to hand sew lace trim? (with pics) Please help! on: July 13, 2006 07:16:59 AM
I thrifted a green hoodie from Value Village the other day and decided to spiff it up by adding lace trim to the hood, buttons on the pocket and painting the back. But I have no sewing machine and am a beginner at sewing (craft wise, I knit and make jewelry), so I really have no idea how to hand sew down the trim.

The whole hoodie with trim pinned down.

Just the hood.

Help is appreciated!!
