OK, so I don't think Craft Mafia is going to work for us, because it is geared towards the "serious crafter" who is trying to sell your crafts.  They expect you to have a website, to do joint promotional and advertising, and all this other stuff.  I signed up for the group and got back an email with a list of 20 questions and requirements.  I think we want our group to be a little more loose.

To sign up,

Any thoughts?

There is a link to Minneapolis on the Craft Mafia website.  It takes you to a yahoo group that was just started about 2 weeks ago and only has 2 members.  Would it be poor form to take over their yahoo group?  It certainly would make our life easier to just use the structure they have already set up.

Wow, I had a really great time meeting everyone, and look forward to seeing you again.  I encourage those who missed it to join in on the fun.

Any thoughts on starting up a Church of Craft in Minneapolis?

That might be a place we can have a calendar.  Yahoo group is good if we want to keep some of our info from being published to the whole WWW.

As far as next meeting, I probably won't be able to make it, I'll be on vacation June 21 through July 10.  But if we nail down a regular meeting time, I can probably demo some jewelry stuff in August.

I'm looking forward to it.  I'll be at the coffee shop and want to check out the library too.  I'll hit Pizza Luce on my way home, since it's right in my neighborhood.

I don't think I'll have time to make something for a swap, but if we want to swap things we already have in our stash, I can probably come up with something.

I hope everyone will bring a few show and tell items - things you made and are willing to explain or even show (if it's quick).

So far I count 12 people are interested.  That will be a great group!

Koyi opens at 5 pm: www.koyisushi.com
whereas Pizza Luce is open all day (and night)

An option for filling the gap between 4 pm and 5:30 would be to check out the grand opening of the downtown library.  There are many festivities planned for May 20.

I vote for Montana Coffeehouse, since one of us has an actual connection with that place.
I like Koi and Pizza Luce as well.

(If we were getting together on a weekday I would say Cafe des Artistes at the Varsity, because that is a cool space to meet with a group.)

This is great that people want to get together!  I propose May 20.

Since I am pregnant, I would enjoy the coffee shop and/or a smoke-free bar, but I kinda need to stay away from nail polish & phthalates.  (For more info see www.nottoopretty.or g

I'm starting a new thread for planning our get together.

I hope to see more craftster oriented people in my classes in the future - it is really fun to make cool and unusual jewelry.  I am, however, taking a break from teaching after this summer, because I'm going to be really pregnant and then having a kid in the fall.  But I hope to teach classes and shorter workshops in 2007.  If you want to be on my email list, then you'll be in the loop.

How's this for a tenative schedule?

Some Saturday in may:
3:00 Coffee Shop (all ages)
6:00-8:00 Mels Beauty Bar (Not sure on their minors policy)
8:00-?? somewhere cheaper?
