Does the wallpaper you used have any patterning on it? If so, I'd love to see a close-up shot.

It's amazing what an uplift that fireplace blind gives your room! You're inspiring me to attack my own hideous fireplace: brown tile surrounding black-and-gold metal.

Awesome re-upholstering too. Great project, thanks for sharing!

I think this is one of the nicest, most thoughtful labours of love I've ever seen. Your friend is extremely lucky to have you around.

As for the ... irregularities ... I think they add intrigue! What could Barbie be hiding under her skirt??? We may never know.

Ooh, I actually love how the pleats are a bit hidden by the darkness of the fabric. The pattern shows them off really nicely, without making them too obvious. And I adore the combination of fabrics you used. There's something so complimentary about those colours and patterns -- they look like they were made for each other.

Are the handles long enough to sling over your shoulder? I prefer your upsized bag to the original design, if only because I've been gravitating toward more and more enormous bags ...

what is this letraset from Paris ??

isn't letraset a brand of markers??  Huh

Oh, maybe! Turns out Letraset is a big ol' company that makes lots of stuff, including markers. I used the word here to refer to typographical transfer sheets ... http://www.letraset.com/craft/shopdisplaycategories.asp?id=76&cat=Lettering ... I guess I always thought it was a generic term like Kleenex, you know?

When I was in Paris last year I found a huge trove of this stuff, a lot of really nice typefaces, in the craft section of a department store. It's not easy to find a good selection in Toronto these days.
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Giant Beach Bag -- navy blue waves with pink detailing, yay! on: April 21, 2008 05:53:34 PM
A bird ended up stealing half of my sandwich (right from my hand!), but overall I'd say it was pretty successful Smiley

You could hardly blame that on the bag! Unless it was the bag and not the sandwich that attracted the bird ... once he realized he'd never get away with stealing the bag, he went for the consolation prize?

Ooh, it's so the perfect time of year to start thinking about giant beach bags! There's nothing I don't love about this bag, but I especially like the effect of rotating the wavy pattern on the pocket, and I love that little pink accent on the front.

How did it hold up on the beach?
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Re: Gigantic Silver and Crystal Cocktail Ring - so fun! on: April 20, 2008 11:14:04 AM
This ring is perfect! Certainly not too big and with that super filigree it looks very light and delicate. I love the symmetry and the simplicity of the design. You chose some beautiful elements and brought them together in such a harmonious way. Excellent work!

Aww, you folks are the greatest!!  Cheesy

I got working on a tute this weekend (with a glorious hot red & pink brocade) but wasn't able to finish because I'm out of magnetic closures. I won't be able to pick some more up until later in the week but I'll definitely have this thing posted by the end of the weekend!

Totally hot. I love the colours.

OMG! U own a Game and watch your so 1337  Grin Grin

Ha ha seriously, I was casting around for things that everybody knows the size of, and this was all I could find! Game & Watch rules!!  Cheesy

Thanks for all the good cheer, everyone! I think the fantastic buttery yellow brocade I used is the main reason for this bag's success. Since it's an upholstery-weight fabric it holds its shape really well. And it's so shiny!

I had a pretty clear idea in my mind of how this ought to look. I drew a sketch and a very simple pattern and then just puzzled the pieces together. I'll get working on a tute this weekend. Then everyone can have glorious clutches!
