31  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Woven Chain Handle? on: August 22, 2010 11:53:46 PM
I've been seeing alot of designer bags around lately with chains sort of woven into the handle of the bags...

like this: http://ckchanelhandbags.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/chanelbags1113inwhitewithgoldhardware.jpg?w=445&h=335

and i was wondering if anyone has ideas on how to make them? in particular, do you think the chain is the actual handle and the fabric/leather/pleather is woven into it or is the fabric the handle and the chain in woven onto it? and how would you finish the ends of the handles? and attach it to the bag?

Have you sewed the fabric to the record there, or just glued it? I love these, i already know what i'm going to use to make my own, just deciding on the mechanics. i don't really like the sewed-on look...

i actually clicked on this thinking it was gonna be pretty tacky, i'm a belly dancer too, and i'm usually disappointed with peoples attempts at the Arabian nights theme, but this is fantastic!! i love it!!

by the way, are those Karma Sutra oils all they're cracked up to be? i've been wanting to get some for ages but they're sooo expensive!

I agree, i think a nice off-white or a light beige, to match that lighter colour that's in the benchtop it self...

and good job too! very well done :-)

38  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / My First Bento :-) on: April 05, 2010 05:32:01 AM
So, I was reading a lot about bento today, stumbled on it from some cooking site i was looking at, and i thought my hubby would appreciate it, and since it's his birthday tomorrow and the poor thing has to work, i thought I'd give it a go!

also, being Easter weekend, *everything* was shut all weekend, so not only is this my first attempt, it is also made from whatever i could find laying around... so it contains some rice, leftover roast beef, cocktail spring rolls, carrot sticks, green beans and some tamagoyaki, the recipe for which i found on justbento.com. I don't think the ratio's are probably correct, but i think it'll be tasty... anyway, here it is:

39  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Actvities for christmas day? on: November 24, 2009 11:57:43 PM
So, not so much craft related as such, but i couldn't think of anywhere else with so many Christmas-ey people in one place...

So the deal is, it's our second Christmas as a couple and our first since we got married two months ago, Hubby's family are going away with friends for Christmas, and most of my family are working, so we're having our Christmas's with them on other days, and we're going to be all by ourselves for Christmas day!

So I'm looking for some ideas as to what we can do to amuse ourselves and make the day special.

We're in Australia, so it's right in the middle of summer, we're not religious, and we're usually into things that are a little alternative... We live in Adelaide which is not a *big* city so most things are closed on Christmas day... maybe 50% of pubs/hotels, and 24/7 service/gas stations are open, and that's about it.....

any ideas appreciated

Thanks

Foxie.

make the skittles the whole centerpiece! you could put them in a long low dish, or fill tall vases with them, or get different interesting little jars, bowls and vases from a second-hand or dollar store (haha, look, i speak American) and group them together filled with skittles :-) you might have to buy a lot of skittles though........
