oh, now i'm definitely casting this on!
just one query: do you do the decrease, then the first stitch of the decrease rows of the chart, or is the decrease the first stitch? if that makes even a bit of sense...
yours look great btw.
you do a double decrease: slip1, knit 2 tog, pass slipped stitch over. .. so the slip stitch is the last stitch from the past row (does that makes sense?) then knit together the first two stitches of the decrease row and pass that slipped stitch over.

and snarkymarcy sorry to hear about your nose! but glad the bruise tam makes you smile - my sister is a medical illustrator so she sees everything in a blood and guts manners - heehee

Wow!!! Do you think a beginner could attempt one of these without the stranding?

yes i do! - the pattern is straight forward and i think this would a good first colour stranding project because you only use two colours (as the noro is striped)
i love the shape of it - i wear mine more as a slouchy 'snood' than a traditional tam but either way would be cute

hooray for completed projects - these all seem to finish at the same time and boy does that make me smile!

first off the tams - i fell in love with knitty's three tams pattern http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter07/PATTtam.html
i made this one (version c) for me with local yukon alpaca and noro silkgarden (shade 226)

and a second one (a hybrid of version b + a) for my sister - we've named it the bruise tam because the colours are all bruise-y shades  Wink

and yes i've cast on another!

and my tomten for my friend's little boy is done- hoooray!! i actually completed knitting it in November but haven't been able to put the zipper in until now - i'm home for christmas so my mom sewed it in with her machine. i'm sooo pleased. the buttons are just a 'design element' -read: the top of the zipper was difficult to sew so it looked rather messy there so we sewed on the buttons to hide the machine stitches there ... plus i do think they are cute (knit with Lorna's Laces Bullfrogs and Butterflies - daffodil shade)
