So my friend Paul had his real birthday a few weeks ago. It sucked, mostly because my group of friends and i failed hardcore at planning. So we decided to throw him an excellent surprise birthday. We decided to pool our money and get him a camera and the orange box. My job was to come up with a cake.
3 Layers of chocolate cake separated and covered in nutella buttercream icing, and then further covered in marshmellow fondant. It was my first time working with fondant and i learned a few valuable lessons, like really covering yourself and your work surface in shortening is the only way to go. I was going to make fondant turrets to go on top of the cake, but i ran out of time.

friend 1: "so what *is* this fondant stuff?"
me: "it's a combination of marshmallow and icing sugar. You melt the marshmallows, stir in the sugar and knead it like dough."
friend 1: "...."
boyfriend: "i think he means, what does it do."
me: :" ah.. it make the cake look like a companion cube."
friend 1: "good. That's all i needed to know."
