12  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help needed! Book Club posters! on: October 26, 2006 03:30:55 AM
I run a high school reading club (I'm a high school librarian).  Last year we had 1/4 of the school signed up (that's AMAZING for a reading program).  I start with a very aggressive marketing campain which includes posters.   I just use some really funky fonts along with some really simple images, photocopy them on coloured paper and plaster the posters all over the school.

I hope this helps!

Those are amazing, I'm so in love with the pleats.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

I have a Walmarty Singer sewing machine, it is nothing special, that's for sure.  I have a needle that I use just for sewing on paper/cards because the needle tends to get dull quickly when you are sewing paper.

Other than that, no secret tricks.

I haven't quite perfected them yet.  The fabric does tend to bubble a bit, but practice makes perfect (or at least acceptable Smiley ).
15  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Selling Crafts on Etsy.com / Re: Excuse this total newbie question please :) on: August 21, 2006 07:01:29 PM
After thinking about it and reading the replies this is what I think:

I am not looking to mass produce anything.  IF I put up an Etsy shop or an Ebay store, there will most likely be maybe 10 items up at a time, maximum.  The items will all be made my me, with my choice of colours, notions, etc.  The items may or not be exactly as the pattern/tutorial/instructions called for, most likely not.  I usually end up tweaking things here and there, thus perhaps making them my own.

Like 99% of the craftsters out there, I do not think that this is going to be a huge money-maker.  I think one is lucky to simply recover their costs.

So....if someone is mad because they think that something I've made resembles something they've made then I think they should be flattered.

Having said that, I am talking about things like purses, knitted scarves, etc.  I am not refering to anything more artsy than that.

If I were an artist or jewelry designer and someone was reproducing my work exactly, I think that would be different.

That's my 2 cents. I think.
