3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / 6x6 Quilt block swap? on: September 07, 2008 08:57:45 AM
So last night I was toying with the idea of making a quilt out of 6x6 squares. But I can never decide of fabrics so I come to all you crafty people for the solution!

A 6x6 quilt block swap!

Here's how it would work: (unless someone else has a better idea  Wink )

Everyone who signs up will get a list of people to send 2 different quilt blocks to. Each block will need to be 100% cotton, like quilters cotton.
Each block will need to measure at 6 1/2 by 6 1/2 when sent.

I think it would be easiest to send the blocks folded in a regular envelope.

So during the send out period everyone in the swap should receive enough or close to enough (though hopefully MORE than enough) blocks to make a decent sized quilt.

I'm happy to organize it all as well.

Any opinions? Anyone interested?

Growing up my Grandma had this chair that I always sat in and loved. Now that she's gone I wanted to be able to keep that memory alive HOWEVER....... The chair was SOOOOOOOOOOO ugly! So what's a crafty girl to do? Yep, Grab a pair of pliers, a staple gun and some super awesome leather-ish material and get to work!

I got the whole chair torn apart over a week in April. I saved all the peices so that I would have some sort of a pattern to follow later.

Sadly this is where my involvement with the chair ended.  Cry I had mega back surgery and my husband took over. I guess this was the best way to keep him entertained while taking care of me.  Cheesy

So he covered it with the material, stapled the heck out of it and hammered in a ton of awesome copper nails.

Now not only do I have an awesome "new" piece of furniture but I also feel as if she's still with me every morning while I enjoy my coffee.

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Uniquely You dressform: Ironing on it? on: February 22, 2008 11:36:02 AM
I finally got my dressform! Yay!  Grin I called the company and asked if I could iron directly on the dressform once I have the cover on and fabric draped on it. They said "I don't see any reason why not." It didn't see like a really sure answer. So have any of you Craftster's ironed the fabric while it was still on the dressform? I really want to have the seams and what not pressed while on it but I really don't want to melt it.
8  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Discussion and Questions / I ironed, prayed and ripped! on: January 08, 2008 07:48:44 PM
I made a transfer tonight with a brand of transfer paper that I hadn't used before. Big mistake! It was shiny and the parts that were supposed to be clear were white and it just overall looked poopy (and very amature). So what's a girl to do? Come to see if any of my fellow Craftster's have done the same thing.

Looking through the posts I couldn't find a way to totally remove the transfer but the one tip that kept coming up was to re-iron the transfer with printer paper between the transfer and the iron. I figured what the hey. The shirt's already ruined what's the worse that could happen? (Besides catching my house on fire!  Cheesy)

So I ironed, prayed and ripped......... Well wouldn't you know all the white parts that messed up the whole look were on the paper, the shine was gone and my design looks EXACTLY how I envisioned it! YAY! I'm so happy I can't even tell you!

I really thought that the shirt was ruined but instead I have something new to wear tomorrow! Yay! THANK YOU FELLOW CRAFTSTERS!!!!!
9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Tote bag from Military Uniform shirts ~Lots of Pics~ on: September 14, 2007 12:22:25 PM
I strated making purses using my husbands old Coast Guard uniform shirts for the fabric and I am in awe at how awesome they turned out! These are my first attempts in several years at making purses and I've never done it from anything other than regular fabric.

Feedback?

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Simplicity 4581 With matching dress for my little one! :) on: June 09, 2007 11:00:40 AM
I was trying to decide on what to wear for my husband's cousin's wedding so of course I was on Craftster's when I stumbled upon this awesome dress: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=154676.0

So of course I had to make one right away! I got the pattern on ebay for .99 and .99 in shipping and had it 3 days later. I went to JoAnns and got this gorgeous silky fabric and started sewing. It took FOREVER to cut out the peices because I decided to line the whole thing due to the fabric being a bit see thru.

This was my first time using piping and that's something I think I'll have to work on. Also this was my first ever zipper. Turns out the thought of putting a zipper in is alot scarier than actually doing it.

I'm very happy with how the dress turned out but not so happy with how I looked in it. My husband said I looked awesome and so did everyone else but I'm not too sure. (No I'm not fishing for compliments! lol)

To match my dress I made something similar for my 4 year old. I took her favorite dress that's similar in style and copied a pattern onto newspaper. Then I did the same basic thing as with my dress, Line, pipe, zipper etc.....

Please give me some feedback since this is the first thing I've made with a pattern..... I'm itching to do more but I wanted som expert opinions.

Thanks ya'll!

Me and my daughter near the end of the wedding. We were both pooped and ready for bed.

Ignore the goofy looking guy. lol! This is the best picture I have of the piping part.
