361  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / checkered messenger bag with contrast oriental lining! on: April 10, 2006 03:41:21 PM
My GF asked me to make her a 'conservative-looking' messenger bag for work with three pockets inside - one on each side and a larger one at the back. I think it turned out great! I'm definitely getting better... Smiley

The outside fabric was some upholstery offcuts that we picked up at a local 'reverse garbage' outlet. The inside fabric she actually found for me at a flea market we visited recently. They don't go together at all but I love the contrast. Everyone at her work is verrrry jealous... hehehe....

362  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / My first zippered, pleated, vintage, purse! on: April 05, 2006 03:34:53 AM
Inspired by tinafish's amazing slouchy purse tutorial, I set about making a zippered pleated purse tonight.

I have a new thing - when I go to fabric shops, I head straight for the off-cuts bin, as there I often find fabric I wouldn't normally buy off the roll. This resulted in the following pleated purse:

And inside:

The inside fabric was this lovely gold satin, but it was a pain in the backside to sew because it was so slinky, it slid around under the machine foot and I didn't get a straight line anywhere! I should have interfaced it. I also made the zipper too small (I can only JUST get my hand in, LOL).

Oh well *shrugs*. All lessons for next time!

What do you think??

Tinafish, I absolutely loved your tute and have to say that as a newbie, it was the most enjoyable creation that I have attempted on this site so far! I just wish I could do embellishments like you!

Here is my 'vintage' slouchy purse that I made over the weekend:

I really love the way the pleats make it all floppy and big inside. My other half reckons it looks like something her grandma used to wear on her head in the shower! Loved it, loved it, loved it. Making more this weekend!
