21  KNITTING / Knitalongs / back-to-school messenger bag along? on: July 24, 2007 09:25:08 AM
school doesn't start until after labor day for me, but i want to have a cute and roomy knitted messenger bag for when i go back. i've knit one in the past but it was for a swap so i had to part with it. is anyone interested in knitting with me? i'm thinking of doing a solid-colored one with pockets on the outside and on the lining...and maybe some decorative cabling?
22  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / wists question on: July 09, 2007 09:34:37 PM
hey everyone, a short while ago, i lost ALL of my bookmarks (including all of the knitting patterns i'd decided i wanted to try!) and also all of my shortcut tabs on my firefox. how do i get that "add to wists" button back on my window so i can quickly add things that i pine over??

p.s. also, if anyone can tell me how to get all my bookmarks back, PLEASE let me know.

25  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / how do i masculinize my knitwear? on: April 14, 2007 11:09:39 PM
so my little brother is graduating high school in a month and he just put down his deposit for college! however, i'm quite worried that he'll freeze to death as he and i are used to tucson weather and his school is near chicago. i've decided to knit him a winter survival kit complete with a sweater (so far i've only done one top-down raglan, but i'm working on my second!), hat, mittens, wristwarmers, and scarf.

but i was wondering: i want to make these items special and unique (perhaps with cables), but is it possible to knit such designs without making them feminine? i guess what i'm asking is: what is a masculine stitch or cable? i find that most cables tend to make things look more womanly. am i wrong?
26  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / irish hiking warmers on: April 14, 2007 05:50:43 PM
i finally got around to making a pair of irish hiking warmers. i'm pretty proud of how they've come out. what do you think?

27  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / dying black hair? on: March 14, 2007 05:39:45 PM
is it possible to dye really, really dark - almost black hair without first bleaching it or soaking it in peroxide? i'm ready for a change - maybe to a brown - something not too drastic, but i don't want to totally damage my head with bleach!
28  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / question about magic loop on: March 08, 2007 10:53:23 AM
i would like to try knitting my first sweater over spring break, which starts in THREE HOURS!!!! anyway, i'm a bit confused about how to work the sleeves and the neck part...do i need to buy 6 different circular needles? two for each sleeve and two for the body if i want to do the magic loop method? i've never tried the magic loop, and i'm hoping that watching some videos will clear it up for me. but i'm planning on going out and buying some yarn and circulars after my last class today and then getting started. i'd really appreciate your help!

30  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / lion brand jiffy on: January 26, 2007 08:27:22 PM
hi everyone,

i recently purchased 2 skeins of lion brand jiffy and hoped to make a scarf and hat set out of the stuff. i've already begun the scarf and am very happy with what's come out so far. but before i CO for the hat, i want to make sure of something: is this "chunky" yarn? i don't think it's "bulky," but i just want to be positive...i can't find that symbol with the number on it anywhere on the label (i hope i'm explaining this ok). anyway, any help or ideas would be much appreciated!

thanks!
