1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / any rowan international members out there?? on: October 24, 2006 03:15:53 PM
does anyone out there have a rowan international membership? i was just curious to see if it's worth the money. as far as i can tell, 2 magazines, discounts on books, and access to some free patterns is what you get. when they say "special offers and discounts on books"...what exactly does that mean? and how many free patterns do they offer each year...are they as nice as the ones found in the books?

3  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / mccall's m3584 halter dress done! on: September 15, 2006 11:10:12 AM
this is the first dress i've ever made.  i thought that the pattern looked simple enough for a first timer, but i didn't think about fit.  it took 3 tries to get the bodice to fit nicely, but now i know how to alter a pattern for my measurements.

i used an amy butler cotton print fabric and a cotton batiste for the lining.  the pattern only calls for the bodice to be lined, but i wanted a fuller skirt so i lined it as well.  it turned out to be really beneficial to use the lining as practice and for fitting.  lots of lessons learned with this dress!  the pattern worked really well for me.  i'd definitely use it again.

just wondering if anyone's ever used this stuff.  it's pretty expensive and i hear it's really warm.  is it soft?  any reviews for these strange fibers?

6  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Need to know what yarns you want... on: April 05, 2006 06:37:35 PM
I'm starting a yarn shop and I would like to find out what everyone's looking for.  I'm starting out online for now, but i hope my business grows to fill an actual store.  Selecting my inventory is such a challange since there's so much variety!  Any suggestions?
