This is my son's first Halloween and I wanted it to be special.  So, since his favorite book is Don't let the pigeon drive the bus! by Mo Willems, I decided to make him a pigeon costume. 



This was my first sewing project and while the stitches aren't perfectly straight, I think it came out pretty well!

I used the duck pattern from Simplicity #2788 and added felt eyes to the hat to be more pigeon-like.  I had to dye the plush felt myself since I couldn't get it in blue.  Luckily, Paula Burch suggested that I use fabric paint from Dharma Trading since the felt was 100% polyester.  This worked like a charm!

His costume is in 5 pieces: 2 webbed feet, a black bodysuit with blue sleeves, a blue stuffed belly and a hat.



Once I finished his costume, I bought a light green shirt from the good will and added some darker green fabric to the collar and shift cuffs to make my own bus driver costume.  I also reworked a police officer hat from the costume shop to match.
