11  COOKING / Dessert / The money you could be saving with Geico...CAKE. on: May 12, 2009 01:49:16 PM
My son turned 4 last month & he's been entertained by Geico commercials since he could sit up. the most recent ad campaign elicits manic giggles at our house. When I asked him what kind of cake he wanted he said, "A Geico cake." At first he said he that meant the Geico logo and then it evolved into the money you could be saving with Geico. Awesome! I've been wanting an excuse to make some marshmallow fondant.  Only later did I think to make it a 4 dollar bill, since it was his fourth birthday- oh well. I'm happy with the fondant but I really need to practice my piping skills.

I hope this makes someone else as happy as the kid was!

This appeals to both the nerd in me and the cake lover in me. Awesome.
13  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Spring = Flour on: March 20, 2009 07:34:38 AM
Challah is so pretty!  I love it's shiny braidedness!

And not entirely off topic, since you did mention King Arthur- but... KA not only has great prodcuts, but they rock in the customer service department. Around Christmas I ordered a few bottles of flavoring and one of them had broken in the package.  I called to replace it and was told to toss the broken bottle and a replacement would be in the mail the next day- I didn't have to do anything!  If you consider baking a craft it's worth the extra expense. I buy KA AP flour, whole wheat, white winter wheat, and bread flour at walmart for around $4 for 5 lbs.  They also carry 8lb bags of KA AP Flour for about $8.  Around here (WV) I can also get it at Giant Eagle and Kroger, if I pay attention I can get it on a great sale at those stores.  KA also carries baking items that may be difficult to find, like malt power and whole wheat pastry flour, and super fancy awesome italian-style flour (super proteiny, makes great breads and pizza crusts)  On top of all of that- it is an employee owned company that really believes in it's products and mission- that alone convinced me to eschew all other flour brands.
(Can you tell that I wrote a paper on KA for one of my business classes?)
14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Kama Sutra embroidery (not for the faint of heart!) on: February 05, 2009 08:57:59 AM
This is so effin' cool.
personally I always wanted like karma sutra wall paper of something b/c the pictures are so colorful and pretty. and I figure not everyone would notice the subject matter right away.
I don't know why this hasn't been done before- its so obvious now.
Beautiful, really. and kind of graphically gross- next you should try that one where she's cross-legged and being lowered on to him- b/c that's totally something that people do  Wink
15  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Rainbow Brite **Image Heavy** on: February 01, 2009 05:06:36 AM
i didnt realize kids these days (wow, i'm only 28 but i sound like a granny) knew who she is. thats so great!
I was thinking the same thing, exactly- down to the age and sounding much, much older!  then again netflix makes all sorts of things possible- my kids love Fraggle Rock and they're 2 and 4.

This is THE BEST rainbow Bright Costume I have even seen. I also had the one with the awful makes that cuts into your face. This is Beautiful! How long did it take? And are the boots actually shoes or kind of a pull over the shoes kind of thing?
16  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Three more bird-based coats (insane number of pics) on: December 04, 2008 09:38:03 AM
So cute!
This is exactly the kind of coat I wanted to make for both of my kids and was going to get Vegebee's and tinker with it 'till I got what I want.  If you make up a pattern, I will buy it in a minute.

has lots of technical fabrics- so maybe you can find something wind/water proof that is thinner. that was my plan anyways.
17  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Birdseed Skull, why? because I could on: November 17, 2008 12:34:57 PM
I dont want to rain on anyone's parade- b/c I think this is awesome and I love to feed the birds- but it's unlikely that you'll have grassy mowhawk....it could happen maybe some of the seed will sprout, but there's not grass seed in bird seed mixes.
Chek out martha- she has lots of tips for suet and could probably lead in a direction that wil let you make something edible.
18  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: post surgery cloche for MeMaw on: November 15, 2008 12:00:14 PM

20  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Re: Kenmore machine-can't even turn the wheel: not worth the repair costs? on: November 03, 2008 03:41:17 PM
Iw as going to take it to sears b/c i bought it there and there are no other options here. Since i first posted about my probelme I have found several repair shops in PIttsburgh, only about 70 miles from me and home friends I'm always trying to find excuses to visit. So I figure I'll tak it up there in the next few weeks and cross my fingers that I win the sew like a pro sweepstakes.
Thanks y'all
