1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / craft selling "rules" on: March 31, 2006 11:29:53 AM
Hi everyone,
I have been crafting for some time, but never sold anything.
Now that I am taking on a new venture of starting a website displaying and selling some of mine and other's works.
I am wondering what the per say rules are when selling some crafts you make.
Mainly wondering about getting ideas from here (the best site I have found in AGES, by the way LOL) If I see a tute of something I like, am I 'allowed' to make it and sell it?? I am leaning towards thinking Yes, because things are not copyrighted etc. and Alot if it is just 'winging' it, but I do not wanna step on toes if I am not allowed to!
Also what about taken the basic idea from someone elses craft project and making something like it myself?
Is a person 'allowed' to look though say etsy or something... think "hey I could make something like that" then sell it??

oh confusion in my head...
must stop thinking!!

thanks for the help
Jenn
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / image HELP for a newbie please!! on: March 29, 2006 10:48:22 AM
I am a newbie to the site, and to various forms of crafting, BUT... I need some help!
I know that a various amount of topics have been discussed on this site about copyright and registered trademarks etc.
I am wondering if I am to sell T-Shirts with stencilling/silkscreening done on them, what can I use besides the obvious my own artwork??
Those of you that use this method for your work? what do you do, which sites to you use? I do not mind paying a minimal fee etc, to use artwork/clipart either so those sites will not bother me.

If thats all clear as mud now... PLEASE help!!

Thanks so much Jennifer
