11  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: One Skein Scarf - First time I've ever followed a pattern! on: March 26, 2006 03:26:09 PM
Great job! I'm working on mine, it's my first crochet project. I'm finally on the second side of shell stitch, along the end of the original chain. When I do the shell stitch into the chain, the yarn from teh chain pulls out really far. It even happens with the slip stitch. Am I screwing up somewhere? I don't have any point of reference, having never crocheted anything before. I could try to hold a seance to contact my dead grandmothers, but asking on a forum is just a little more convenient.
12  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: yarn brand suggestions? on: March 22, 2006 02:24:05 PM
I second you on knitpicks.com. Their yarn is great and unbelievably well-priced for the fiber content. I am always stuck between the rock of being poor and the hard place of being a fiber snob. I'm sorry, if I won't buy 100% acrylic sweaters, why would I knit them? Right now I'm crocheting a scarf with Lion Brand Wool-ease, which seems to be a good compromise. I'm a novice crocheter, but at times, the yarn does seem to be loosely spun. It could be my inexperience though.

I'm addicted to yarn too. I've got more than I need, not as much as I want.

Me, I just joined.
By now, you probably know that Jo-Ann and Hobby Lobby cna both be found in the decrepit Crossroads mall at 10 and 410. The good hting about that is easy comparison shopping. For a fun crafty time, go to Nomadic Notions on Broadway in Alamo Heights. You can make jewelry there and borrow their tools. I love going there, but as I have two small children who would gleefully topple the drawers and drawers of tiny beads, I can only rarely go, when my husband can stay home. San Antonio does have a lot to offer, especially if you stay inside loop 410.
