12  Re: Critter holder - for a ferret? Help! (Also: Vogue 8015) in Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions by gammerus on: May 04, 2008 11:11:17 PM
My ferret hated all of the normal carriers, but for some reason loves being in a purse (hammock like?)  So I whipped up this hobo-esque bag that she loves. She goes nuts if she can't stick her head out so It is a good idea to strap them in by their harness if you can.  But a comfy bag is great for walks or short trips.

13  Stuffed Pink cuffs From AZ in CHALLENGE 25 ENTRIES by gammerus on: March 05, 2008 12:21:21 AM
For those of you that don't know Maricopa county (arizona) is home to the self proclaimed "world's toughest sheriff"

He is known for many things ( http://www.snopes.com/politics/crime/arpaio.asp ) But one of the most recent things that has put us on the map are his newly issued Pink Handcuffs. Yes you heard me, Pink Handcuffs. He says that they will prevent handcuff thefts Roll Eyes But I think he just has a thing for pink. First it was pink underwear, then it was pink undershirts, now Handcuffs.

14  Caution Bike in Completed Projects by gammerus on: March 04, 2008 01:00:42 PM
Brand new (used) bike + large roll of caution tape = coolest bike ever!

I got a cool bike, but like many I don't want it to get stolen. Every bike I have ever had was stolen at one point and this time I say no more.
I say if you want to steal my bike, you are going to have to spend hours unwrapping layers of caution and clear packing tape. Grin Make them bicycle thieves work for their money.

I will edit this eventually when I can get some better pictures, till then you can kinda make out what my bike looks like through the grainy pixels.

19  Re: Living Lava Lamp in Completed Projects by gammerus on: December 31, 2007 01:23:39 AM
Just so everyone knows, those fish are used to living in little mud puddles with barely a cup of water.  I don't think the lava lamp was harsh at all.  Actually, in most cases, its more than they are used to!  Now if it was a different fish that roams large lakes, we have a different situation.

I hate to sound like a know-it-all but that is a misconception.

1. The bettas in the wild have short tales and are as close to petshop fish as chiuahuas are to timber wolves.
2.the natural temperature in rice paddies is about 80' year round, and bettas need this heat to function properly.
3. Rice paddies only dry out for a couple months a year, and during this time the puddles are still pretty big in comparison to any betta bowl.
4.muddy water is not as damaging as water with high amnonia levels.
5. This is their "natural" enviroment

20  Kitty Harness in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by gammerus on: December 20, 2007 09:40:05 PM
My parents have always hated cats, and refused to believe that they make good pets... Well that all changed when we found an 8week old kitten in our backyard. It was raining and the dogs were barking incessantly at him, scaring him half to death so he a sad sight when I found him. So of course we brought him in, dried him off and gave him some kitten food (which I allready have for my ferret).  It really didn't take long for my parents to decide that we were keeping him. I honestly think it was pity more than anything since he was so small, cute, friendly, and looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks.

He is getting rather big (couple pounds now) and he needed a harness so he could be taken for walks and what not... Well amazingly enough the old ferret harness I had fit him quite well, the only problem was that the nylon was too thick and too stiff. Well now I could just buy him a new harness and hope it is comfortable, or I could do the craftster thing and make him a comfy one myself.

So I dug through my fabric stash and found a cute baby blue shirt and began sewing... using the parts from the ferret harness of course.

I did forget one thing though, a bell.  He isn't allowed full run of the house because of how small he is, and since gaining weight he has been able to jump over any baby gate and get into everything he shouldn't... If anyone knows how to keep a cat from going behind the fridge I would love to know.
