11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Disposable camera swap 5 (SIGN-UPS CLOSED, SEND-OUT 8/21/2008) on: July 24, 2008 02:43:26 PM
I just figured out what I'm going to do for my partner's frame. The basics, at least. I picked up the frame at lunch (Hobby Lobby has frames for 50% off until Saturday) but need to scour my stash for stuff to make it unique for her.  I can't wait to get home to start!

I haven't started taking pictures yet, but hopefully will in the next week or so.

Yep, you get a discount as a Michaels employee, even if you're just part-time or whatever.  It's pretty cool.

I haven't started taking pictures yet, but I have started a list of places to go that will probably have great photo ops.  I'm stalking my partner to get plenty of ideas for the frame, too.  Yay stalking!  (Luckily, I just started a part-time job at Michaels so that should come in handy for materials!)

Doesn't flickr have an upload limit for the month though? Would that get in the way?

Flickr does have an upload limit for free accounts of 100mb per month.  Also, for free accounts, only the last 200 images you've uploaded will appear.  That would probably mean that having one flickr account for the whole swap wouldn't work.  If everyone signed up for their own (or used their own currently) and posted to a group, the limit probably wouldn't get in the way.  I'm not familiar with how groups work on flickr exactly, but it looks like someone can create the group with invitation-only membership so that only members can post but anyone can view.  It seems like any number of photos can be linked to the group.

Sooo, I was thinking (it happens sometimes) and I thought that setting up a flickr or photobucket account for everyone in the swap might be a good idea.  Having one account would allow all of us to upload photos in the same place, film and digital folks alike.  Any thoughts on this?

Flickr has groups, too.  So if people used individual accounts we could post the photos to the group account too.  I'm not sure which would be easier or better, but it's another option.

Someone I work with is from Texas, does that count? Wink

I've been in Colorado my whole life, minus some vacations here and there.  I love everything about it and though sometimes I find myself wondering what it'd be like to live somewhere else (New England, Hollywood, Europe), I'm pretty confident I wouldn't be able to stay away long and would always come back.

That's part of the reason I joined this swap!  I love to see areas through the eyes (or cameras, I guess) of people who actually live there.  It seems there's always a bit of a different flavor when the picture is taken by a local rather than a tourist.

Yay!

Is there a specific requirement for the size of the frame that we craft?  When I first read the swap description I had assumed it'd be a frame with a 4x6 opening, but it doesn't actually specify.  I just want to make sure if there is a specific size or if it's just whatever our partner would prefer.

I just sent in my questionnaire. This sounds like great fun!  I've been needing an excuse to go take some pictures. =)

I'd prefer sooner, because I don't really have anything going on right now and I'm excited about this.  But later will work for me also.

I just pulled out my sewing machine again after a very long lull of "I can't sew, so what's the point in trying?"  This will be a great project for me to regain my sewing confidence.  And it's functional!  I love that.  Thanks for the tutorial!
