hi arnette, the 'hinge' is just black gaffers tape. and then there are 2 screws to hold the left side 'spine' to the back of the book. still considering other ways to get the books to open even slicker!

you made some wise stylish decisions. the ruffle is so hip without detracting too much from the great graphic from the t-shirt. and it rocks hard with those boots. hottt!!

not to impose my own poltical views, but just a thought about the soap.... it would be a great metaphor for "cleaning (white)house" in 2004

keep up those great ideas and momentum for voters! good luck!

this is my first posting with photos... so wish me luck...

i made these books at work, and i'm lucky to have access to tools. such as a bandsaw, which i used to cut the records. but i did read somewhere on this site the method of heating the record and then cutting with heavy duty scissors. so that's a good at-home option.

it started when a co-worker brought in boxes of free records. i cut a straight edge about a third from the top and bottom of the record. then cut the remaining piece in half, down the little hole. then cut a 'spine' type piece (about half an inch) from the front cover piece. so that the cover would be able to fold open, i used black gaffers tape to the 'spine' back to the front cover. next i drilled holes in the spine, then put in 2 small screws with nuts on the back side. next time i may invest in those nice book binding screws. the blank pages are scrap paper from work also.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re:Necktie Skirt!! (Pics + Tutorial) on: April 16, 2004 01:28:42 PM
necktie skirts are really cute. my sister made one years ago and i watched while she constructed it to learn the tools of the reconstruct/crafting trade. she also started a dress with halter top out of the full length of ties. shortly after she made it, i saw the girl on the show "blossom" (remember that show?) was wearing one. hers was a flapper style and the ties were not fully sewn together so that they flapped around. i think she wore bike shorts underneath. anyhow, great work!!
