1  By the power of Grayskull.... I HAVE THE POWER! in Halloween Costumes by death_by_vodka on: November 04, 2012 06:38:17 PM

I don't have many pictures of this but I wanted to share it anyway. A friend of mine wanted to be He-Man for Halloween so I made it happen for him. I created all parts of the costume except the sword and the wig. Smiley

2  Cthulhu in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by death_by_vodka on: February 17, 2010 07:04:18 PM
My boyfriend has recently developed a love for Lovecraft (heh.) So for Valentine's Day I made him this plush Cthulhu. The picture does not really do him justice, but I found him so hard to photograph! The tentacles and the wings aren't as messed up as the picture might have you believe. I think he came out great because he was definitely out of my experience range. I had only made one plush animal before him, a cat for my friend Samma, and it was the equivalent of bringing to life a small child's kitty drawing. He was made using a modified version of this pattern: http://www.members.shaw.ca/plushie/ufoplush/

Here he is:

3  Professor Snape on Canvas in Other Image Reproduction Techniques: Completed Projects by death_by_vodka on: July 11, 2009 09:33:31 AM
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is my absolute favorite of the Harry Potter series.  Professor Snape is my favorite character.  I couldn't sleep the other night (probably due to movie release excitement) and found myself painting this little portrait of my favorite potions master:

This was done with acrylic paint on an 8x10 panel canvas.

He lives on my bookshelf at the moment.

Where are all the other Harry Potter crafts?  With the release so close I figured that the boards would be flooded with them?

4  Vinyl Banner Spraypainted w/bands logo in Stenciling: Completed Projects by death_by_vodka on: September 02, 2008 08:34:14 AM
My boyfriend Matt (second from the right in the action shot) and I made this banner for his band, DevilsClub, to put on stage at their shows.

We started by spray painting all of the vinyl black.  Then we made a stencil of the words, cutting out the letters (and being careful to keep them perfectly in tact!)  We taped down the stencil of the letters and spray painted it red.  When it dried, we put the cut out paper letters over top of the letters we had just painted red and put the silver around it.  When it was all said and done, I liked it.  But I didn't really realize how much I liked it until I saw it on stage this past weekend!  Here's an action shot (don't mind that one of them is in a wonder woman outfit...)

I should also mention that Dave (guitar player all the way to the left) made the frame that its in.

5  Ram w/Gas Mask Stencil *first post!* in Stenciling: Completed Projects by death_by_vodka on: August 21, 2008 09:00:08 PM
Hi everyone!  I always lurk on here and get inspiration from everyone's posts... but until now I've never posted any of my work.  My boyfriend belongs to a metal band called DevilsClub.  They're a part of a group of metal bands known as the Flint City Death Squad.  Next weekend they're playing a local metal festival that involves camping and partying for four days.  All of the FDS bands are going to camp in the same area and my boyfriend wanted a flag to put over the area for whatever reason... anyway, its unfinished as we didn't get the words "Flint City Death Squad" and their Myspace address on yet, but this first stencil was the real challenge anyhow.

This is the stencil drawn out on freezer paper.  Its half black and half green because my black sharpie died and a green one was the closest one to me.

Here's a progress shot of what the stencil looked like after five hours of cutting out the shaded areas.  The dark spots are the "bridges" I made while I was going along.  This is easily the most complicated stencil I've ever attempted:

And here's what we finished just an hour or so ago.  I just realized that we didn't paint in the bridges so I suppose I'll be doing that tomorrow when I stencil the words on.  I'm really proud of how this came out and my boyfriend is THRILLED with it.

You can see from the picture that there were a few areas with paint leakage and I might fix those up with black paint.  But nobody is really going to be seeing it up close so I might leave it, depending on time.
