21  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / The kidlet has skills (a first sewing project) on: March 19, 2006 06:13:53 PM
For Christmas I gave my 10 year old daughter a Sewing for Dummies Pattern (Simplicity 5577) and a promise that she could use my machine and any suitable fabric from my stash to make it with. Shes been working on it off and on for a couple months and finished it today. Im very proud I did almost none of the sewing the pressing on the other hand *laughs*

Modeling her very first sewn by herself outfit, my kidlet:

And a close up of the fabric. Love this stuff and its all gone now!

Not bad for a 10 year old, eh?  Wink
22  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A corduroy purse and vintage towel tote bags on: March 19, 2006 05:44:47 PM
First time posting!

Figured Id show off some things Ive been working on over the past while:

First up, my first purse. Last summer we were in Fredericton, and I saw some corduroy purses with colourful appliqus on them. I coveted highly. Alas, I just couldnt bring myself to buy one at the time, and for months have been kicking myself for that decision. So finally made up my mind during reading week to make one anyways.

Dark green corduroy and the most fabulous orange cotton print. The strap is in both fabrics, but I wish I had interfaced it a bit too floppy for daily use, I find.

All my usual items. The size of the purse was decided based on my journal (the coilbound book in there)

With everything dumped out.

With that I got bit by the bag making bug ended up visiting a thrift store and falling in love with some vintage towels. Made them up this weekend:

And this one Im keeping, I love it so much.

Theyre both lined with a side zipper pocket.

Ta Da!

(edited because months makes much more sense than month.)
