Alas, no flakage here, just a missing package. I need an angel for a swapper in Australia (lovely_gangster). The package needs to be 8x11 (A4/C4) in size with a mix of papers ranging from the size of the envelope to bits and bobs of smaller pieces.

Please PM me if you're interested in angelling.

Other Official Type Stuff:

1. Delivery Confirmation Numbers will be required for swap packages that are being sent within the United States. If youre sending a package to another country, or if you dont reside in the United States, please save your receipts!  Remember to send the DCN info to your swap partner(s) and the organizer (that would be me, Melesse)!

Shipping Tip For US Residents (courtesy of kategirl): The USPS requires that the package measures at least thick for a DCN.  If your package is too flat, it might be necessary to bulk up the package with a couple of plastic grocery bags to get the DCN!

Shipping Tip for Sending TO Canada: Canadian Customs really, really likes getting their cut ($5 handling fee plus taxes on the declared value). Please remember to mark your customs form with gift and NCV (No Commercial Value) or NA (Not Applicable) when sending to Canada.

For US swappers sending to Canada (thanks to yarncookie for the info): The name of the form is Custom Declaration CN-22 (PS Form 2976) and is green and white. But you have to fill it out at the post office, you can't get it off the USPS website.

2. It is important to communicate with your partners and the organizer.  You must let the organizer and your partner know when you have shipped, received or may be late!  You are still responsible for sending out the swap package in a timely manner!

3. I will be leaving feedback based on communication and shipping. Trust me theres no way to over-communicate with me. Wink

4. Please, send what youd like to receive -- dont use the swap as a chance to get rid of lousy stuff.

4  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Blissful -- help? on: July 27, 2006 02:24:14 PM
Hey!

Ok, I'm quite the new crocheter and I'm getting mixed up on the very first row of Blissful. (Which does wonders for my ego, I'm telling you) The part is "dc2tog worked across next 3 ch." I'm not sure what that means. I (edit: thought I) have the double crochet 2 together down, but is it one in each of the 3 chain stitches? (Which is what I was doing and it looks wrong) Or is it a decrease using the 3 chain stitches? And if so, how do I do that?

Thank you!
5  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My first FOs! on: July 12, 2006 07:58:45 AM
I've jumped both feet into the crochet kiddy pool! I set myself a task to make something and use up one skein of yarn to see if I liked crochet. (I have a bad habit to get only part way into trying something and saying "nope! done!", so a full skein meant I'd have to really try.)

The first skein was Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in Playtime.

And I made a dishcloth (which is used as a trivet, because I have a thing about washcloths.) That whole ending the row and what counted as a stitch had me a bit obviously confused...

Then I made a coaster to try this working in the round thing:
http://skyworks.ca/new/focoaster.jpg

and that finished off the skein and I was hooked! (Pun unintended. Oi.) I bought a crapload of yarn, the happy hooker, and took out nearly every book on crochet in the library. I now have in the making 2 shawls, 2 hats, a baby blanket for my new niece and next up I'm tackling the Go for Baroque lace sweater.

But I finished a hat too! I call this alternately "the wow, that's why you check gauge" hat or the "little miss muffet" hat. It's supposed to be the "Betty" hat (the green one, can't link directly, it's a pdf) but... gauge... yeah. It's made with Marble by James C Brett in Heathers. Modelled by my lovely daughter, who has refused absolutely to ever wear it for real. Wink

Thanks for looking! I can't wait to post more FOs. Smiley
6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Paper & Ephemera Swap 4? on: July 07, 2006 03:05:50 AM
So after doing a bit of snooping, I see that there was an open Paper & Ephemera Swap that morphed into the International one where the partners were more specific. What I'd love to do is organize an open one where the partnering is more random and not restricted to country.

The basic idea! Fill a standard sized (8.5 x 11 inches) manilla envelope with as much Paper & Ephemera goodness as you can cram in there.

I hope there is some interest 'cause I love paper! Smiley
7  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Making FrouFrou bigger? on: July 03, 2006 04:33:09 AM
So thanks to an off the cuff comment from my mother ("You have crochet thread! You're just like your Oma!") I'm now the proud owner of 4 crochet hooks, far too much yarn and a copy of The Happy Hooker. I'm planning on doing a number of projects eventually, but the one I'd love to do for myself is the FrouFrou.

The problem is the largest bust size listed in 50" and I'm 55" in the bust (and probably correspondingly bigger on all measurements). Is it possible to enlarge the pattern? If so could some kind soul walk me through it since I'm barely out of the sc dishcloth stage?

Thanks in advance!
8  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Ongoing Fabric Swap III - the summer edition! FINISHED! on: June 17, 2006 07:01:10 PM
Superhuge thanks to loves2experiment for the swap write up, any errors are mine.

Swap name: Ongoing Fabric Swap III The Summer Edition
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Melesse
Sign-up date range: Ongoing
Date to send items by: Seven (7) days after someone claims from your list!
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Nope.  The more the merrier!
Non-U.S. participants allowed? Yes!
All ages allowed? Yes (Parental consent required for those under 16!)
Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: Yes, indeed!

DETAILS OF SWAP:

If youve got stashes of fabric, this is the swap for you!  This round will be taking place from June 21, 2006 until August 31, 2006!

For each claim, you will get to select a total of 1/2 yard of fabric (in the form of two (2) fat quarters OR a half yard piece).  In return, you will then be required to make a post with a minimum of eight fabric swatches that you have available for someone else to claim.

This is what went on in the first round and the second round of the swap.

Ready to play?  Please read the following sections on 'HOW TO PLAY' and 'RULES' for this swap before signing up to get approved for this swap!

Additional Information:

First time swappers! Please be aware that since this is an ongoing swap, you will not receive positive feedback even if earned until the swap ends (on August 31st) or you leave this round. I strongly recommend signing up for a short term swap to fulfill your new swapper requirements then coming in and joining the fun here!

The amount of claims you are allowed is based on your craftster and swapping status. New swappers get one claim, non-FOCs get 2 claims and FOCs get 3 claims.

ONGOING FABRIC SWAP GALLERY!

HOW TO PLAY:

Step 1.  Send in your answers to the swap questionnaire to get approved for this swap Smiley

Step 2.  Prepare your lists and photos of your fabric so that youll be ready to post the list when you make a claim!  Remember, you need 8 minimum!  Along with the pictures, you should describe the type and clearly specify the quantity of fabric that youre offering!  For example:

1. Brown and Turquoise Cotton Batik.  1/2 Yard Piece.

Step 3.  Watch the swap thread for something youll like to claim.  To claim, post a reply along the lines of I claim #2 and 6 from love2experiments stash.  Then send a PM to the person youve claimed from listing what youve claimed and include your name and mailing address.

Step 4.  Now that youve made a claim, its your turn to post your list of fabric swatches!  If the thread idles for a couple of days, please take the initiative to add more selections to your list!  When someone chooses from your list, you have seven (7) days to get the swap package out the door!

Step 5.  If you have not maxed out on the number of claims you have been approved for, you may keep on claiming.  If you have reached your limit, you will not be able to make another claim until one of your partners has received a swap package from you.

RULES:

1.  You may not participate in this swap until you have been pre-approved by the swap organizer and are listed on the List of Approved Swappers. If youre thinking about participating, go for it and get pre-approved. By doing so, youll be ready to make a claim when you see something you like

2.  If you participated in the Ongoing Fabric Swap I or II, please make sure that youve sent out all your packages for that swap (i.e. the packages should either have been received by your partners or are on their way to your partners) before signing up for the Ongoing Fabric Swap III.

3.  You must have ready access to a camera and know how to post pictures in the swap thread.  Please make sure you have your list (either links or pictures) of fabrics available when you start swapping!  You will need to have a minimum of eight fabric swatches in your posts.  If youre posting pictures, please make sure that you showcase pictures in groups of 4s (i.e. post 2 images, if you have 8 fabric swatches).  You may also choose the option of posting links to your fabric swatches.  If you do that, please make sure that your links work!

4.  All participants must be willing to ship to international destinations.  Since were only sending a total of 1/2 yard of fabric, shipping costs should be pretty reasonable.

5.  After a claim has been made, you have seven (7) days to mail your package!  Check out the second post of this swap thread to know when your swap packages are due.

7.  It is important to communicate with your partners and the organizer.  You must let the organizer and your partner know when you have shipped, received or may be late!  You are still responsible for sending out the swap package in a timely manner!

8. Please offer fabric selections that others would want to claim.  Try to include a variety of fabrics in your lists. Another good rule of thumb to follow is this: If you're offering a piece of fabric to "simply get rid of it", that's probably not a good thing!!

If that sounds good to you and you want to participate, send the following information to the organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:

Name of swap: Ongoing Fabric Swap III
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your full real name:
Mailing address:
Have you read the rules for this swap and understood how this swap works?
How many fabric swatches will you be required to showcase when you make a claim?
Do you promise to communicate with your partner(s) and the organizer when you send, recieve or are late?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO THE ORGANIZER (me!) VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to consult the Swap Info Guide and Swap Etiquette to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Gold & White Towel Beach Bag on: June 10, 2006 12:49:08 PM
My word, one of my bags as a winner! yay! Thank you!

About the bag: I saw the idea in a bag making book a while back, can't remember which one though. As soon as I saw the contest theme for this round, I knew I had to make it in this great towel I found at dollarama. I have the clear vinyl on hand and picked up the grosgrain ribbon to match. This is the first time I've done a bag with the handles shaped like an oval and I really like the support and strength it lends.

I don't think I'll be selling this one since the edges of the vinyl don't line up right. Maybe it'll find a new home if I swap with someone that wants it. Smiley

10  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Just call me Gustav -- first handmade journal on: June 05, 2006 11:54:31 AM
It's show off day for me!

After looking at all the awesome hand stitched journals on here I decided to give making one for myself a try. I ravaged an old book for the covers, waxed the crap out of some variegated crochet cotton and mixed up a bunch of papers. I am very happy with the results! Now for the pictures!

The front cover. It says "Gustav Freytag - Complete Works."
http://skyworks.ca/new/gustavfront.jpg

The spine. The variegation on the thread turned out fantastically.
http://skyworks.ca/new/gustavspine.jpg

Pretty pages! I used a mix of 24lb white printer paper, 20lb pastel mix, cheap and scary drawing paper with lots of tooth to it and finger painting paper.
http://skyworks.ca/new/gustavside.jpg

The inside. If I had thought of it, I would've done an endpaper there, ahh well.
http://skyworks.ca/new/gustavinside.jpg

So just call me gustav! Wink Thanks for looking!
