2  Ants on a Plate...and Spiders too... in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by Avril222 on: August 09, 2009 12:30:41 PM
also horribly inspired by robotarsonist's gorgeous work seen here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=284893.0

i took my longtime love of ants and spiders and my complete dysfunction with actually making a ceramic plate and voila...i used plates from goodwill and the fantastic ceramic pen, Porcelain 150 to make my very own ant and spider plates.  this is my first time using a ceramic pen so be gentle.
here they are:

i hope you dig them like i do...

3  buttony bernice in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Avril222 on: February 19, 2009 04:46:16 PM
so, i have been severely neglecting my craftster, but i'm back! and i have a couple of people to show you! this is buttony bernice, thus named for the vintage buttons that kind of flow down her lovely sculpey towel. her is a lovely shot of the buttons (seen on the upper left side of her head) and of her fabric boobs (also with buttons).

she is made from rescued fabric and stuffed with polyfill. she hangs by a fabric hook that i reinforced with interfacing and about 3 million stitches.

bernice's hands and head are sculpey 3 with a wire armature in the head. the thing tied around her hand is her certificate of 'birth,' printed on that amazing inkjet shrinky dink paper!

i am digging her, what do you think?

oh and here is another lady, hilda, that i made that i am going to put in this post too as soon as i get pics of her!

5  ikea fabric love (1st-ish sewing project...yay!) img obese in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Avril222 on: May 17, 2008 01:13:47 PM
i have dreamed of the day that i could post something in the craftster: clothing: completed projects board...and today, my dream comes true...

i was browsing through ikea - stoughton and saw that they had fabric?! and some really intense yellow/black gingham print on clearance for a dollar a yard...so i bought the remainder of the bolt. only one snafu...i did not know how to sew.

fast forward 3 months later when i enroll in an adult ed course on learning how to sew. i am making simplicity 4070 but wanted a project on the side to see if i could actually sew without my awesome teacher. so i rifled through the dollar patterns at winmill,  a great family owned shop and found a skirt pattern that didn't seem too intense...
so, here goes and thank you thank you thank you for obliging my really long winded story. this posting moment is the apex of my craftster membership thus far..

look at the joy in this face...

a straight shot of the skirt.  excuse my roots

twirling with my beastie baby...

action shot!

it even has a waistband and zipper!   ...   fancy

and the pattern:

thanks for looking and i would love love love your comments!
so excited!

and !voila!    N o    n o n s e n s e     N a d i n e

No nonsense Nadine is always worrying about the neighborhoods business.
She can be seen
hanging out on her stoop,
in her striped housedress,
hair curling in a towel,
with a cig to spare.
She doesnt take crap from anyone.

here's her no nonsense face:

and her whole body:

and one more so you can see her mole:

I made her out of Sculpey III and salvaged fabrics from my neverending stash.
I hope you like her...
and thanks for checking this out.

7  nosy nancy in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Avril222 on: March 22, 2008 08:05:16 AM
hi all
this is nosy nancy...she is always up on the neighborhood gossip.
She can be seen
hanging out on her stoop,
in her striped housedress,
sweat rag across her shoulders
hair curling in a towel,
with a cig on her lips.

Nancy's head and hands are sculpey III and her body is some salvaged fabric stuffed with more salvaged fabric. She hangs from a reinforced fabric hook on her back.

I made another one of my "hanging ladies" for a fundraiser that will benefit the school that i teach at. i will post her as soon as i can grab some pics!

I hope you like her...
and thanks for checking this out.

comments are always appreciated.

8  ah, the boyfriend doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Avril222 on: March 03, 2008 06:35:55 PM
so, i gave this doll to my boyfriend for christmas. he is obsessively clad in a red & blue stripe wool hat, red hoodie, and new balance shoes. i wanted to get him a wii for christmas really badly but couldn't, obviously, get my hands on one so....i thought for hours about what i could get for him and voila...out popped my boyfriend doll. the face is sculpey III poly clay (and not from a mold). i painted it with acrylics after baking and put holes around the edges with a needle so that i could sew the face onto the head of the doll body (a technique that i have never tried and might not ever attempt again however fun stabbing yourself in the finger may be to some). the body is muslin and also painted, though you can't see it (pervert), with acrylics. i made the 'hoodie', sneakers, hat, and pants out of some salvaged shirts that i have sadly outgrown. onto the pictures:

full body shot

upclose

and the doll and the real thing

hahaha, he likes it!

comments?

thanks for looking!

10  Re: 2007 Completed Costumes Scrapbook! (completed project pictures & links go he in Halloween Costumes by Avril222 on: November 16, 2007 04:35:25 PM
hi...i know this is a tad later than halloween but i wanted to put the one measly photo that i have right now on my beloved craftster.org...

i went as miss argentina from beetlejuice. i reconned this gnarly red suede dress and made my little sash out of my boyfriend's holy hanes undershirts and some interfacing. i used fabric paint and a stencil to do the letters. i made her neck/collar thing out of some red pantyhose and an evil wire coat hanger that honestly took about 30 minutes to bend into the shape i needed it to be. my makeup is from a costume shop in south boston and is a much lighter blue in natural light. yeah, the makeup was the most fun...people seem to be nicer when you are blue....more photos of the full costume to come
