1  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Re: Bathrobe for a lizard on: April 12, 2010 01:22:08 PM
Wow... Your lizard is WAY too cute. We used to have bearded dragons. Tongue I love lizards! She's free ranging?? Wow! How big is she? I'd figure she'd get lost. O.o Our lizards were pretty small. I LOVE the heart applique, and the color of the fleece really looks nice against her scales. Cheesy

She's free ranging indeed! She was about 16 inches until she broke her tail while ferociously digging an egg nest, now she's about 12 inches. She's only been lost once, and it was when she was first introduced to the free-range lifestyle (she turned up in my laudry bin), but now she mostly just sticks to her trees and bamboo teepee. Sometimes she gets to dig in the garden too!

I use olive oil too, and sometimes organic vitamin E oil (for some reason it makes her more green), but she's free ranging (she runs around my house like a cat) so she always ends up covered in dust when I rub her down with oil, so the bathrobe is a nice addition. She doesn't scratch at it at all, I think she might even like it! I didn't do it up the first few times I put it on her and she didn't climb out of it, she just napped. Tonight she is using it as a pillow, soooo cute!

Aww, thanks!! Not only is she super cute (and a robot), but she works in rehab centres and childrens hospital wards as a therapy animal, Tammy is pretty much an angel.

I'm not normally one to dress up animals (except for when the winter winds blow and the dog needs a coat!), but in this case I think putting a bathrobe on my mountain horned dragon for about 20 minutes after bath-time is justified. Tammy (the lizard) is going through her shedding phase and soaking in warm water helps to loosen the dead scales, but keeping in the warmth and humidity by wearing a bathrobe really speeds up the process so she can get back to being her lizardy self sooner! Her robe (more like a vest) is made from fleece and has snaps to hold it shut. Here she is modeling her new after-bath look:

Amazing! I just spent a month doing fieldwork with ring-tailed lemurs and I'd say you captured their personality perfectly!

Mushrooms made from sculpy translucent clay, then painted with really cheap arcylic paint. The mossy piece is actually a stash pot, and the morels are hollow just like real morels.
