1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Ferret sweater on: October 07, 2009 10:52:19 PM
Okay, firstly: that ferret is adorable. What's his (her?) name?

Now, to the knitting - that's your first project? Hot damn. I've been knitting off and on for... 8 years (started when I was nine), and I still haven't tackled changing colours in rows OR sweaters of any size. Colour me impressed!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: My first hats on: October 07, 2009 10:47:54 PM
Your hats are lovely! I'm sure your recipients in the colder climates will appreciate them. Cheesy
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: First ever sock on: September 29, 2009 08:29:46 PM
I think you did well! I'm much too terrified to try sock knitting. The mere thought of trying to figure out what "turning a heel" means drains the colour from my face.

The colour is lovely. I'm sure your next pair will be great!
4  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: Why are you Vegetarian/Vegan? on: September 25, 2009 09:45:51 PM
I had no idea we had a cooking board - this is exciting!

Anywho, I'm a vegetarian purely for environmental reasons. I don't like the idea of using natural resources I don't have to, and contributing to our carbon emissions. I guess I'm technically a "flexitarian" since I do eat the occasional marshmallow.

I'm very lucky to go to a campus that believes in sustainable and ethical food - the eggs come from a free-range farm on the Island, and the milk also comes from the Island.
5  CANADA / British Columbia / Knitting group for UVic students on: September 25, 2009 09:30:45 PM
If you go here, you probably already know this, but I figured there was no harm in posting.

There is a knitting club on campus - info (including contact info for the organizer) is in the Sept 24 edition of the Martlet.
6  CANADA / Ontario / Re: southwestern ontario craft shows? on: September 25, 2009 09:24:45 PM
It would be a bit of a drive, but Owen Sound has Summerfolk in August, and Midland has the Mariposa Folk Festival (which is usally the first weekend of July).

Not only are there craft shows - awesome music too.
7  CANADA / Ontario / Re: Are there craft stores in Canada? on: September 25, 2009 09:22:17 PM
Owen Sound has a yarn store on the Saugeen River by the library. I can't remember the name of it - it's fairly new. I never got to go there before I moved to BC.

There's also Creative Thoughts in Markdale, which is probably about an hour away from Kincardine?
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Lace yarn... sock yarn? on: September 24, 2009 10:45:04 PM
I was wondering if it's possible to use sock yarn for lace projects. I would like to knit a lace scarf for my sister, and I found a sock yarn in a colourway I know she would love.

Thanks for the help. Smiley
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: My First Skirt on: July 09, 2009 12:59:45 PM
That is truly lovely. And I love the pattern!

I have some pink fabric that I wanted to make a skirt out of... this exact style, actually. But I can't seem to find a pattern like this. Do you mind if I ask what pattern you used?
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: 2 purses i recently completed :) on: June 14, 2009 06:40:45 AM
Those are amazing. I'm uber-impressed (and slightly jealous) of those of you who can make things without patterns. That's awesome.

I love them both! And they even have bows... Smiley
