1  possible joining / how is this done - question in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by mistress_batty on: May 19, 2011 03:31:10 PM
So I found a granny square that I thought was cute and have decided to make some of....then I found someone had made a pillow out of them. The part that I really liked were these lines that they had added to it..they kind of outline every square.
The more I look at the picture, the more it doesn't look like they were used for joining the pieces together but I could be wrong.
I'm wondering if anyone has a link to or can explain how this is done. I'll post a picture of what I'm asking about...

It's that pink line between all of the squares.....

 Thanks in advance!

So so sorry for posting these late! Sad I'm really glad that you and your husband loved the zombie cat, Rangerbeth! I had a blast making it. It was interesting coming up with ideas and then having to figure out how to make them work. I dug the challenge Smiley And who doesn't love an adorable zombie Smiley

Here is what the lovely Rangerbeth made for me. One of my suggestions was a hybrid animal. So she made me a catbat! (I lovelovelove bats Wink )  Oh also, I love maryjanes, which I don't think I said or showed anywhere....so those were a great bonus hehe

I'm trying to put something together where I can set her so everyone can see <3

Okay, I am so so sorry for posting these photos late and thank you to my partners who did  post their work. I'm also glad that you both liked what I made for you!

So the "D" is from NH822. She uncovered my love for typewriters and thought this looked like a great typewriter font. I thought it was a great first piece to the wall, a "D" for me Smiley <3

The octopus was made by PearliePie. And I'm bummed that the colors in the thread I can't seem to capture with my camera. It's really pretty though. It's not variegated by any means...but there's different colors in it. Lol it's hard to describe but it's beautiful.
Also, it took one of my roommates to point out that it actually spells out 'octopus' in the arms. <3

Now I just have to keep the cat away from them. He saw me take down a painting and hang these two in it's place, so now he feels the need to stand up real high, balance a paw on the monitor, and then try and bat them around. :3 lol

I had so much fun <3 I can't wait for round 4 to begin

4  Re: Tour de Fleece 2007 in Spinning: Completed Projects by mistress_batty on: July 11, 2007 03:34:54 PM

"Casino Carpeting"
I dyed this wool with Wilton's Cake Dye...I used black & pink and they separated into soo many colors. I really like it. I plyed it with thread and added dice beads....although you can only see a couple of them in this picture..

"stitched up"
working name. not a fan of it though. although not sure what else to call it.
It's really thing grey yarn with some pale red that's just a little thicker...and then some big red chunks....
I think this was the smallest I've ever spun....

I was wondering....if I was going to suggest a needle size / hook size for this yarn....what would I base it on? The majority of the yarn is really thin....but in 5 different spots it's really thick. So would I want a bigger needle because of the big chunks....or what?

That's what I got done  today. 4 oz. Tuesday I dyed the wool....and had been dying to dig into it. lol So I got a very rude awakening from my dog at 4:30am today and  couldn't fall back asleep....so I jumped right into spinning. Tomorrow I'm going to ply this puppy.
I have 10 other yarns I'd like it get done through the tour...but who knows. I have to move some time this month so that puts a crunch on things....
  I can't wait to see everyone's stuff.

6  Plastic bag doggie raincoat in Crochet: Completed Projects by mistress_batty on: June 25, 2007 03:24:30 PM
I've been dying to try my hand at making plastic bag 'yarn' and crocheting with it, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to try it out.
It's been pretty rainy here the last few days and my dog hates going out in the rain, so I decided to make her a little coat for her back so she doesn't get wet. lol She doesn't like that clean feeling.
I made 6 basic granny squares, three of each color combo and then trimmed it in yellow. The piece that goes around her chest is braided grocery bag. I decided not to use plastic for the piece that goes on her belly because I didn't think plastic would feel too well rubbing on her little belly, so I cut up a t-shirt that I had ruined with hair dye & hair bleach (the piece I used for the dog coat didn't have any chemicals on it though).....but yeah, I used cotton t-shirt material for the belly strap.
And without further ado....here is my model, Sara.....

oh, if anyone can't see the images let me know....I can always upload them to a different place.

Here are the two I made this week <3

this is 'carnival'....in person it sparkles...sadly that doesn't show up in the picture

this is 'seedling'...this was soo quick to spin. I don't know if I just got into the spindle groove or what but I was shocked at how quick and smooth it went. The colors are a little off in this picture. The green isn't so pale..it's more of a gorgeous yellow green and the other color is brown. Sadly the picture is showing it as some weird purple like color. I also strung wooden beads onto it. My 'seeds'.

Does anyone have any suggestions about taking pictures of their yarn? Best places, light, etc. for close to the actual color of the yarn....

Everyone's yarn is so gorgeous!

Here's my first fiber Friday contribution...

 It's 89 yards...wool & thread.
And because you can't see all of the colors in the skein photos....here's a shot when I was winding it...

the bottom color is actually violet...the flash is making it look like dark blue

And here's  what I'm spinning right now....it's a mystery batt I purchased...so there's all types of nifty animals and synthetics in there....

10  Re: problems beginning - leader issues in Spinning: Discussion and Questions by mistress_batty on: April 04, 2007 04:55:59 PM
Okay....so I dug out some homespun and on accident the wool and yarn got stuck so I just ran with it. lol But....I just want to make sure what I'm doing is...actually making yarn. lol In some places its twisting on itself and whatnot. I don't know...lol

 Does this look...right?
