1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Button swap time? on: February 04, 2011 07:42:48 AM
I know not everyone checks this board and just checks the sign up board so I think I'm going to go ahead and post this next week. Button swaps have always been popular in the past so I think we'll have plenty of people sign up.
I'm going out of town this weekend but will get it organized by the end of the week.

Lovely! I love the fabrics she chose.

For those out of the US, definitely plan on sending soft cover books to keep postage down.

For those that want to send hard covers, just plan on using one of the flat rate boxes and then at least you'll only pay $10 for shipping.  You can get A LOT in the longer medium flat rate box. Or depending on what you're sending, it might be cheaper to send the books media mail and a 2nd smaller box/envelope with the crafted items. Just remember to get 2 DC #s.

I did this last year and it was actually one of the cheaper swaps to mail and I think I sent 4 paperbacks, bookends, note cards, and bookmarks.

psyche, that sounds like a good timeline!

I may be a challenge to craft for- I don't need any more tote bags, I never use bookmarks or bookplates, I already have a couple of fabric book covers and I'm too lazy to maintain a book journal/log. In the last book-related swap I was in, I got an awesome teapot (I love tins of tea!), but I don't need any mugs (my cup cabinet overfloweth). I love to curl up to read with a blanket wrapped around me, but that's a rather big item for this swap.

What are some other ideas?

Book/theme related jewelry, note cards w/ a book theme (I did Sherlock Holmes cards last time and partner liked them), book box, t shirt with book theme, etc

Hoping for a few more interested parties before I post sign-ups. Maybe the weekend will bring more swap browsers Wink

There was a thread started about this theme a couple of months ago but I don't think anything happened with it:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=365014.0
I'd love to do one, but I'm not sure I could part with the buttons I have. They came from my mom and both of my grandmothers and some farther back than that. Definitely keep an eye on this, though...

Thanks, I posted to that swap.

You certainly don't have to part with your family buttons! I just happen to score some vintage ones which is why I mentioned them. You can use ANY buttons!
