1  Crochet Blanket - finally finished! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: October 28, 2009 05:46:00 AM
Talk about making life complicated! Why I couldn't have just made a normal granny blanket, I'll never know. But I'm glad I made this double blanket - even if it did take quite a while to get my head round it all!

That's what happens when you buy a book called 100 crochet squares and start making random squares before deciding to try to make them into a cohesive pattern rather than a mish mash!

Anyway, it was worth it in the long run. Even if it did mean quite a few evenings spent staring at different mixtures of squares and trying to work out if I had enough of the right colour to finish them all.

The blue section on the top left is my favourite one - and it's the one I made first.

3  Doctor Who Adipose - crochet pattern? in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by Shinykatie on: April 08, 2008 08:49:48 AM
I saw on Crafty Crafty that there's already a knitted Doctor Who Adipose available on eBay. If anyone out there is clever enough to create a crochet pattern, please post it up - I'd love you forever!

Actually, I don't think that knitted one is quite right. This is what it should look like (for anyone in the US who hasn't already seen the episode!)

4  Baby Hat - Orange instead of Tomato! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: April 07, 2008 04:25:30 AM
I mentioned a while ago that I wanted to make a tomato hat that looked like an orange (after a special request from the baby's father). Well, in the end, I just made the same hat, but used an "orange peel" stitch to give it that orangey feel.

Unfortunately, you can't see the knobbly skin too well on the pic because I was stupid enough to iron the hat after I made it. I can't believe I didn't know you weren't supposed to iron acrylic! What a fule.

5  Legend of Zelda patch - with pattern link! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: January 30, 2008 03:02:26 AM
After the skull and crossbones coaster I made (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=200730.msg2133799#msg2133799), I thought I'd give Zelda a go and I finally finished it! The pattern I've posted up is slightly altered because I think that the one I made wasn't quite as perfect as I'd have liked.

If you want to make one yourself, the pattern is up on Crafty Crafty http://www.craftycrafty.tv/2008/01/geek_craft_legend_of_zelda_cro.html. What do you think?

6  Jolly Roger Skull and Crossbone place mat - WITH PATTERN LINK! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: October 08, 2007 02:32:15 AM
Hi ya, I made this at the weekend! My artist boyfriend designed the skull for me, and I've made it up into a pattern for anyone who wants to make one. I altered the final pattern a bit as I think the bones on the bottom left aren't quite shapely enough! Pattern is here if you want it:

7  Crochet Mittens - Just in time for summer! in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: March 11, 2007 04:25:02 AM
I actually made these for my friend a while back, but she wandered off with them before I had a chance to snap her. I'm especially proud of the pose she's adopted for the pic, which is the same as the model in the book I got the pattern from. I bought the book over in Japan when I was there a while back. I wish I'd had the time to buy about 50 more books - they were all so excellent! And the patterns are so much easier to follow! I don't get why we don't all use those patterns - it would certainly help with confusion over UK/US names and all that nonsense.

Anyway, what do you reckon?!

8  Japanese Bobble Hat in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: October 30, 2006 12:03:40 PM
I picked up a couple of excellent crochet books in Japan on a recent trip. This is the hat I made from one of the patterns. What do you reckon?!

9  Pixie Hat in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: September 04, 2006 01:17:40 PM
I made this pixie hat for my friend's baby (arriving shortly). She's due in a few weeks, but probably won't fit into this for a few months - hopefully in time for Winter! I'm not sure if her mum will like it - she's not a huge fan of my big ugly crochet stuff normally, but I figured it would be a nice quick thing to make and I tried my best not to get too carried away with the colours - I do tend to make things that are a bit garish!

What do you reckon? Would you stick this on your poor innocent child?!

10  My first item of clothing! Shrug in Crochet: Completed Projects by Shinykatie on: April 04, 2006 06:46:15 AM

I made an item of clothing! Well, I've made hats and scarves before, but they don't count. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and best of all, I'm actually happy to be seen wearing it in public!
It should have been a bit bigger, but I like it this size - I'm tempted to make a load more of them for summer. It's one of Diane Langan's patterns (http://www.dianelangan.com/crochetpatterns/largeviews/greengoldpat.html)

(more pics on my blog if you're interested).
